PAWA NEWS
2020 AGM & Club Conference

In anticipation of the end of year and moving in to the AGM we are asking clubs/zones to look at the calendar attached to do some pre planning for the dates next year.  We know some zones have met and had discussions around dates and we are hoping to capture this information earlier this year to pre plan better!

Secretaries are to view the attached calendar and pop in your zone/club dates as a start for our planning please (or email them to eo@pawa.asn.au to place in there). They don’t have to be set in stone, just give us an idea of how it is looking.

We are also asking what dates clubs might prefer for the AGM next year (yes we are planning for next year already!) If you can complete the below quick survey to let us know your preference that would be appreciated.   https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/3PJYQCM

Next year’s AGM will propose a new format incorporating a Club Conference with the AGM – this will look to incorporate things affecting clubs like grant writing Working With Children’s Checks and Member Protection Information Officer, along with strategic planning, social media and a visit from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and Sports West and of course any other things that clubs feel important or essential to their running we want to put more tools in your toolbox to help you be even more successful!

Nationals Survey - Have Your Say!

We are trying to ascertain why there has been a decline in nominations for the coming event in Ballarat and as such we have created a short survey that we would love you to answer to see if there are any factors we can help with in future.

The Polocrosse Association of WA has noted the significant absence of nominations for the Ballarat  Nationals 2020.

With this in mind we would really like to know what our members are thinking and what possible hurdles are preventing you from nominating for this event.

We would really appreciate you taking 5 minutes to provide us with feedback so we can try to overcome some of these hurdles.

All responses are anonymous and will be kept in confidence.  We will only use data to establish patterns and statistics for improvement.

Dog Survey - Have Your Say!

The PAA board has noted that the current Player’s Code and PAA Directives, as detailed in the polocrosse rule book, regarding dogs at polocrosse are not being strictly adhered to during polocrosse carnivals, nor consistently enforced by our membership. The PAA Board would like to revisit this policy and as such requests some input from the PAA Council members.

At other equestrian events dogs are permitted around the arenas if under effective control. It is apparent to the Board that dogs are generally accepted at polocrosse by the polocrosse community, judging by the dogs present at so many carnivals. We feel it would be better to accept this current real status, than have a policy that is not being implemented.
It is also problematic that many polocrosse grounds are publicly owned, so local residents and passing travelers use the surrounding area on a regular basis for their dogs. It is also possible that local venue lease or hire agreements for these sites do not include areas outside the playing area, therefore the rule of no dogs is not enforceable.

Before this policy can be amended, the Board would like to undertake consultation with the PAA Council about dogs at polocrosse. The safety of the public, players and horses are our primary concern.
As a discussion starting point, we would like your feedback on whether you think the following points, or any others, will allow us to manage dogs in an acceptable manner.

Please take 3 mins to complete this survey so we can provide feedback to the PAA

If you are unsure about hosting Blue Bandage please contact your zones or Mary Day, Tony Puglia or Salli Galvin – it really is as simple as running subbies or alternatively contact the SEO we will make it as easy as we possibly can.

INDIVIDUAL/CLUB OPPORTUNITIES
Member Protection Information Officers

Each club should have a nominated MPIO. Once online component is complete please email your certificate to eo@pawa.asn.au. This is soon going to be part of legislation in sport as they conclude the inquest in to child protection.

(MPIOs) play an important and positive role in providing a safe, fair and inclusive environment. An MPIO is a source of information about a person’s rights, responsibilities and options when managing an issue or complaint. They can also provide information and advice to sport administrators and complaint handlers regarding the Member Protection Policy of that sport.

The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries invites members of the sport and recreation industry to register for the Member Protection Information Officer course. The course is specifically designed for people who wish to be a Member Protection Information Officer in their sport and recreation organisations and clubs. Please note priority will be given to representatives from State Sporting Associations.

The MPIO course comprises of two stages: an online prerequisite and then a face-to-face workshop. State sport and recreation associations and clubs are invited to nominate persons from within their organisation to attend.

Prior to attending the face-to-face workshop. The online component takes approximately 4 hours to complete and covers:
• The MPIO role
• Complaint resolution procedures
• Member protection and the law
• Child protection
• Harassment and discrimination
• Ethical and practical considerations.

For further course information, please visit Play by the Rules.

Thoroughbred -  race name is Prince Frederik. He hasn't raced although he has trialed. He's fully educated, floats, swims, ties up, easy to shoe. He is quite a character and if he was a human you'd say he would be a better gymnast than track star! He's only 15.2hh but quite strong. He can turn himself inside out, either in the paddock or in his stable yard, and he's very light on his feet. I've passed on a few horses from the stables to become polo ponies and he seems to me like a likely candidate. The photo is of him about six months ago and he is quite a bit stronger now. He's free to a good home and I'm sure whoever takes him will get a lot of fun out of Freddie. Please contact Paul Jordan 0417966712
