Great news! We currently have 45 Blue Bandage players registered in WA with 16 of those players already upgraded! With new players brings new spectators, families and hopefully club members to our sport!

We encourage all clubs to allocate and advertise a timeslot for Blue Bandage at their event please, so our Blue Bandage players can see where they can attend around the state!  It can be as easy as using the subbies timeslot and running the two in conjunction with each other, if you need assistance the zone contacts and state contacts would be more than happy to help out if they can.
If you are unsure about hosting Blue Bandage please contact your zones or Mary Day, Tony Puglia or Salli Galvin – it really is as simple as running subbies or alternatively contact the SEO we will make it as easy as we possibly can.
The database has now been updated so it is easier to nominate blue bandage players for events. Click here for database instructions!
Blue Bandage Report - Mary Day

 Greenough Blue Bandage
Greenough were fantastic and ran BB for our players on Saturday and Sunday.
We had three BB on Saturday and our time slot was straight after a Junior E game so I snavelled our three Junior E girls and we had a great time for a good hour, though one of our youngest JE girls said BB was too slow for her! So funny, I think her surname was Ryan and her first name started with F!
On Sunday we only had two BB and the finals had started so Jane Marriott and I stepped in and found the exercise of no touching horses or hitting racquets a fantastic exercise!
Perth club has kept their blue playing shirts, have the zone coaching kit, their own racquets, bibs, blue bandages (donated), and balls. We are more than happy to share  with any club when Perth are attending the same tournament.

Irwin Blue Bandage
Irwin BB stepped up a notch or two with five players ready to go, but only four played on Saturday as the other ladies horse was lame. I stole two of our Perth D grade players to step in as twos as they were waiting for their game to start. Also the BB players were all registered with Perth so all knew each other. The BB players loved it as it gave them time to digest the rules, handle a horse, racquet and ball and all in a very uncontrolled environment to them. They were all mounted on very suitable polocrosse horses which just makes it more fun for them and the learning easier. We had one teenage boy who has only attended one practice, not a strong rider but mum has mounted him a fantastic horse that looked out for him but put him right in the game. The other three ladies have been practicing all summer when they could but playing a game was so exciting for them and the competitive spirit started within two minutes!
Sunday we had five BB and our E grade section for Perth line up together. Tony Puglia and I decided to play just ones and threes and run six chukkas which worked a treat. So they got a feel of a real game, walked in, did the introduction, timed chukkas. Though we did not score I know the players did! The other two ladies in the Perth E grade started the season as BB but upgraded very quickly as are strong riders and have competed in other equine disciplines plus riding very good polocrosse horses. Zara Ryan was our other E grade player riding Houdini so they showed us all a trick or two!
The improvement over the weekend was 200% and they all wished to do it again at South Midlands, which is fantastic as it gives them all an option of another couple of trainings before to keep their confidence on the rise. Though there may be some negativity about BB, the positives far outweigh them. Non polocrosse people are in among six horses going in all different directions, which look out of control, is a very scary sensation. With mental health, change of family dynamics, working hours and our high level of stress and anxiety in our world today this is a perfect way for people to have fun without the stress of competition and enjoy the relaxing time around a fire with their friends and family.

Thank you Polocrosse Association of Australia and all the people involved for thinking outside the square and giving these people an opportunity to enjoy our game and improving their well being.

Teenagers in Sport

The number of children playing traditional, organized competitive sport all over the world is falling. The sports appearing most vulnerable are the traditional Olympic sports eg. athletics, diving, gymnastics, swimming etc. and the situation is worst in rural and regional areas. The age group where sports participation is falling at the fastest rate is teenagers aged 15-16 years.

Please click here to view an article about why teenagers are leaving competitive sport and the way forward to encourage them to continue their involvement.
