President Wrap Up

Welcome to the last Chukka Chat for 2019.
As we reflect on the year that is drawing to a close, our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies remain with the Hamersley family as they face each day without Tabitha. The loss of one of our polocrosse family is felt keenly, and Tabitha will be sorely missed by many.

We are fortunate to enjoy such a close-knit polocrosse community in WA and we witnessed this  many times throughout the year. Despite on field rivalry, the support for one another is a hallmark of this sport, and I encourage everyone to take a moment to remember the good times you’ve had this year with your polocrosse mates.

We’ve faced challenges with low numbers across the board this year, however we’ve also seen some amazing polocrosse and seen a few underdogs tuck a win under their belts. The sheer joy that has been on display this year has been a highlight. Congratulations to all Zones, clubs and their members for taking new initiatives, expanding on tried and true formulas, showing up to play week in, week out, hosting Blue Bandage competitions and committing to support polocrosse at all levels. We’ve had juniors visiting NSW and hosted NSW juniors – the friendships forged across the country.

We will head to the 2020 Polocrosse Nationals with just 4 teams. Thank you to everyone for your patience and persistence during an abnormal selection year. Congratulations to those who have been selected, thank you to those who have taking on coaching and managerial roles, and all the best for your campaigns.
Congratulations to Tom Keightley and Jake Wilding, together with Kacie Crabb who we haven’t really relinquished to Victoria just yet, on their selection in the Australian Under 21 team to tour New Zealand in February 2020.

Our focus now turns to the AGM and Clubs conference on 18/19 January. I urge everyone to consider nominating for a role if you have a passion for developing and growing our sport, and have some skills you’d love to share.

Finally, I take this opportunity to sincerely thank the PAWA Councillors for their time and expertise that they have given so generously this year. Your efforts are greatly appreciated and contribute to the smooth running of polocrosse in WA.
I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year.

PAA Policy & Procedures Manual (Draft)

The PAA Board invites you to review and comment on the following DRAFT policy and procedure document.
The ultimate aim is to provide you with a “one source of truth” document that will contain links to the most up to date resources. The Board also acknowledges that over time the Polocrosse Rule Book has become a catch-all for policy rather than simply a reference for the rules of the game, we also intend to remedy this over time.

All comments need to be submitted via your State Association by COB 30th December 2019

The PAA and Pony Club Australia have collaborated to have polocrosse as their discipline of the month!
Please click here to view a potential target list to use to share this information with those close to your clubs now would be a great time to chat and see how we can help make polocrosse a feature for them now or in the future!
Please share this with any pony clubs you feel might be interested.  If you need more Blue Bandage information please email

We encourage all clubs to allocate and advertise a timeslot for Blue Bandage at their event please, so our Blue Bandage players can see where they can attend around the state!  It can be as easy as using the subbies timeslot and running the two in conjunction with each other, if you need assistance the zone contacts and state contacts would be more than happy to help out if they can.
If you are unsure about hosting Blue Bandage please contact your zones or Mary Day, Tony Puglia or Salli Galvin – it really is as simple as running subbies or alternatively contact the SEO we will make it as easy as we possibly can.
Has your club hosted any Blue Bandage Polocrosse players? Send in your photos and a short blurb of the day to share! Email to by the 15th of each month.
Has your club done any polocrosse coaching at your local pony club? Send in your photos and reports of the day to share! Email to by the 15th of each month.

Each club should have a nominated MPIO. Once online component is complete please email your certificate to This is soon going to be part of legislation in sport as they conclude the inquest in to child protection.

(MPIOs) play an important and positive role in providing a safe, fair and inclusive environment. An MPIO is a source of information about a person’s rights, responsibilities and options when managing an issue or complaint. They can also provide information and advice to sport administrators and complaint handlers regarding the Member Protection Policy of that sport.
The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries invites members of the sport and recreation industry to register for the Member Protection Information Officer course. The course is specifically designed for people who wish to be a Member Protection Information Officer in their sport and recreation organisations and clubs. Please note priority will be given to representatives from State Sporting Associations.
The MPIO course comprises of two stages: an online prerequisite and then a face-to-face workshop. State sport and recreation associations and clubs are invited to nominate persons from within their organisation to attend.
Prior to attending the face-to-face workshop. The online component takes approximately 4 hours to complete and covers:
• The MPIO role
• Complaint resolution procedures
• Member protection and the law
• Child protection
• Harassment and discrimination
• Ethical and practical considerations.
