The Canadian Association of Professional Apiculturists (CAPA) report there’s no one single cause of honey bee health issues, but suggest colony failures can be caused by a number of factors including: starvation, weak honey bee queens, pesticides, diseases and pests.
Pollinators like honey bees play a vital role in agricultural success in Canada—they are responsible for one in every three bites of food we eat and $2 billion of Canadian agriculture. Luckily, today there are over 8,500 beekeepers in Canada keeping more than 700,000 hives. We need to celebrate that honey bees are thriving, but also pay close attention to the issues they face to ensure they continue to thrive in the future.
Our group is passionate about pollination and are excited to be able to continue to do our part!
