Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup
Porto Cervo (ITA), 4 - 10 September
Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup winner of the Super Maxi class is the Swan 115 Shamanna!
Speaking with the International Maxi Association, the owner of Shamanna was delighted with their victory:
"We have been training quite a lot and it came together very nicely this time with great crew work. This is a great regatta with all these powerful boats and the scenery is beautiful. I like the coastal races – a lot of things happen in them and there is a lot of interaction when the boats come together.”
The team, lead by Guy Barron, former America’s Cup and round the world race sailor, is a mix of friends and pros.
“Coming to Sardinia, your boat has to get around the course – that is one of the big things. A big hand to the crew and skipper Chris Brand to put this together and not break anything. This is the fourth time I have won at the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and my first time in the Super Maxi class. We’ll definitely come back and do it again.” - Guy Barron.

Swan 36 Scherzo of Cowes
Swan 36, hull no.13, Scherzo of Cowes is owned by Peter Morton. He bought her from Scotland 5 years ago and she underwent a major refit at David Heritages yard in Cowes. This Swan 36 raced in Cowes week 2022 and managed to take first in Black group, Swan Cup and Cowes week overall.
Robbie Southwell (who is Swan 90 Freya bowman) and Jonathan Carter (Freya captain) then took her for the double handed round the island (Isle of Wight) race, gaining 2nd place in class and 2nd overall, losing to a folkboat by 2 minutes. The next boat was 26 minute behind on corrected time, including a new Swan 48. An amazing achievement for this classic Swan. Congratulations to her Owner and crew.

September is a month of transition, where Swan yachts seem to be starting to get ready for the winter in the northern hemisphere. But September also is a month with a lot of Swan events; for sure boatshows give the oportunity to meet all together and see what's new, but without doubt, the Rolex Swan Cup, eagerly awaited since four years, has been the perfect opportunity to connect both the cruising and racing Swan family once again in Porto Cervo.
The NSGS yards are starting to receive the early birds for the winter refit season and all the departments and teams are fully back on track.
