May 2013 Newsletter
It looks like spring if finally here! Things are turning green and the weather has been beautiful. Are you still spending as much time sewing?
Check out our website at www.SaskatoonMQG.com. We would love for you to write a guest post for the blog! If you have a tutorial or something to share please contact us and we will get you set up with a profile so that you can write a guest post. This is a great way to drive traffic to your own blog and share ideas with members of the guild. We also have a Flickr group found here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/saskatoonmqg/. If you are a Flickr member please join the group and add your projects to the pool! We'd love to see what you are working on. These don't have to be MQG specific projects, just anything you are working on. In addition if anyone without a blog wants to participate in the Blogger's Quilt Festival let us know, we can set you up on our blog so you can participate.
Regular Sunday meetings will continue to be the 4th Sunday of the month. Our next Sunday meeting is Sunday May 26
at 2pm at Periwinkle . We also have meetings the second Wednesday of the month, from 7pm-9pm at the Co-op Grocery store on 8th Street. There is a meeting room beside the pharmacy. The next Wednesday night meeting will be June 12
. We endeavor to keep the Sunday meetings more structured and the Wednesday meetings more informal, anything goes on Wednesday, bring something to share with the group, something to work on, things you need help with, whatever you feel like contributing.
Sunday May 26th Meeting: Bev will give a tutorial on slashing.
Make it Modern Challenge
In April we announced a new challenge (due for the June 23) - Take a traditional block design and make it modern. Modern is anything you want, fabric choice, design liberties, anything! Make any project you want even if it is just a block.
Patti donated a wonderful bundle of Snap Pop fabric and we are going to use it to make charity quilts. If you received fabric remember to make 2 (at least, more are always welcome) 12.5" unfinished blocks. They can be any design you want but please try to incorporate one of our focus techniques in at least one of the blocks (English paper piecing, curves, improv, or foundation paper piecing), feel free to add any coordinating solids to your block. These blocks are due at the May 26th meeting.
UK Guild Swap
We have been approached by a UK guild to set up a little swap. We circulated a sign-up at the last meeting, If you are interested please let us know so we can start organizing based on numbers. We don't know what the project will be yet but it'll likely be something small.
Want to become a member? Fees have been set at $20 for the calendar year to cover incidental costs. We are prorating fees quarterly so now memberships are only $15 for the rest of the year. If you would like to attend meetings and find value in what we are doing we encourage you to become a member. Membership forms and cards will be available at all of our meeting. If possible bring cash (to keep costs down we will be operating with cash only). Please feel free to bring a friend or attend a meeting or two before becoming a member.
Thank you so much for the support and enthusiasm! Our door is always open - get in touch with ideas, comments, questions, concerns, and topic suggestions for upcoming meetings!
