Friday Afternoon: Ribbon Cutting for New Freeway Service Patrol Program

Pismo Beach, Calif. (March 12, 2020) – Join the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments (SLOCOG), California Highway Patrol (CHP), and Caltrans for a ribbon cutting ceremony and photo shoot to launch the inaugural beat of the San Luis Obispo County Freeway Service Patrol (FSP) program.

Ribbon-cutting for inaugural trip of the San Luis Obispo County Freeway Service Patrol program, helping to reduce traffic congestion on U.S. Highway 101 during peak commute hours by mitigating incident and minor accident related traffic congestion

MORE:           
FSP is a FREE service; a couple tow trucks will patrol designated segments of U.S. Highway 101 Monday through Friday during peak commute hours. The goal of this new program is to help reduce traffic congestion on U.S. Highway 101 during peak commute hours by mitigating incident and minor accident related traffic congestion. Services provided by FSP will include:
  • Changing flat tires
  • Jump starting vehicles
  • Refilling radiators and taping leaky hoses
  • Putting a gallon of fuel in gas tanks
  • Towing inoperable vehicles, free of charge to a safe location off the freeway
  • Clearing vehicles damaged in collisions under CHP direction
  • Removing debris from traffic lanes under CHP direction
About SLOCOG
The San Luis Obispo Council of Governments (SLOCOG) is an association of local governments in the San Luis Obispo region. Its members include San Luis Obispo County and its seven cities (Arroyo Grande, Atascadero, Grover Beach, Morro Bay, Paso Robles, Pismo Beach, and San Luis Obispo) as well as unincorporated areas of San Luis Obispo County. The central purpose of SLOCOG is to examine common regional problems and suggest solutions. SLOCOG provides transportation planning and funding for the region, and serves as a forum for the study and resolution of regional issues. In addition to preparing the region’s long-range transportation plan, SLOCOG plans and provides funding for public transit services, highway and roadway improvements, and other alternative methods of transportation.
