Welcome to Issue 183 of the newsletter!

This week's edition covers themes from CSR and depression to President Obama's speech on the unifying role of sport. Our third installment in the article series on sport and CSR discusses the benefits of social programmes for companies and how NGOs can approach corporations to form partnerships. The role of sport in unifying societies, building bridges and increasing wellbeing continues to gain international attention. Emerging market economies are finding themselves in a position to more easily implement social development programmes where sport can feature prominently. Researchers also continue to investigate the role of sport in the lives of children and youth, whether it be for the treatment of depression or bringing the Olympics and Paralympics to schools. will be covering the Sustainable Innovation in Sport Conference on 22-23 February. Environmental sustainability is an important issue that rarely figures at the centre of development programmes. In the coming weeks we will be publishing information on the event and its outcomes in our highlighted initiatives section.
