The MBODWAMS - preparing to serve in the Democratic Republic of the Congo using aviation and youth ministry to reach out to people and communities with the Gospel.

Flight refresher training

This August I used a week of my vacation time to refresh my mission flying skills at the Mission Aviation Training Center (MATC) in the Netherlands. MATC is a preferred training provider for MAF International and was co-founded by a former MAF pilot, Jeroen Knevel, who was my instructor for the week!  In addition to the flying lessons he gave me during the week, Jeroen shared many of his experiences and lessons he learned as an MAF pilot in Tanzania, Tchad, and Sudan.

MATC is located right next to the MAF Netherlands office building at the airport in Teuge.
Jeroen Knevel, co-founder of MATC, was my instructor for the week.

We spent the first few days doing airwork and navigation review in the Cessna 172.
Good to be flying again!
On Thursday, we drove to the AIS Jet Center in Leylestad to use the flight simulator for instrument flight procedures review.
Flying the simulator.
On Saturday we drove up to Oostwald to use the Cessna 206 for more airwork and emergency procedure reviews, navigation practice, and short/soft field procedures practice.
The Cessna 206 has been a reliable aircraft for mission work in remote places over the years.
MAF pilots are responsible for, and perform many of the tasks related to flights such as refueling, loading, and sometimes assisting with maintenance of the airplanes.
Aviation is a powerful tool that enables churches and Christian organizations to connect with people in isolated places.  Many of these places are difficult or impossible to reach by road.  This is the case in many parts of the Congo outside the major cities.
Visiting the MAF Netherlands office.
MAF uses aviation and communication technology to reach out to people in isolated areas with medical care, education, community development resources and the love of the Gospel.
Enjoying dinner with Jeroen's family.
Heading back to Marseille!
Little MAF souvenirs for Michael...

Happy to be back home after a wonderful week of refresher training.

Coming up...

This Thursday August 27th, the MAF US regional manager for Africa will be visiting us at SIM France.
Prayer requests
  • Praise God for good flight training weather while I was in the Netherlands.
  • Pray for a productive meeting time with MAF US and SIM France this Thursday.
  • Pray that we will continue to make good contacts as we seek out the financial support and backing to serve in DRC.
Thank you for your support and prayers.

God bless,
