Happy New Year!

As we leave 2014 behind, we look forward to a new calendar – a blank slate – to make new decisions and new resolutions. With that in mind, I heartedly wish you a joyous and prosperous New Year. I'd also like to thank you for your ongoing support and trust.

But before we leave 2014 behind, below is the latest digest from my blog postings related to amazing happenings in NYC. I hope you have a moment to enjoy them. Researching and writing the articles is a lot of fun and I'd love to get your comments, suggestions, and tweets.

Looking forward to helping you have a great 2015,
- Laura

THE WHIMSICAL DESIGN OF PIER55

December 21, 2014. News about futuristic designs in New York City bring out our skepticism, but when the Hudson River Park Trust and The Diller – Von Furstenberg Family Foundation officially announced a partnership to build a world-class public park and performance space on the site of the  deteriorating Pier 54, the possibility became more bankable. It helps that Barry Diller and his wife Diana Von Furstenberg have pledged $130 million to build the park designed by British architect Thomas Heatherwick. More...

PREPARING FOR A BIDDING WAR

December 14, 2014. These days, it isn’t uncommon for buyers to end up embroiled in a “bidding war” for an apartment. For most, this is an unexpected part of the buying process; a step that shows up just as the transaction seems within their reach. A HAPPY THANKSGIVING RECIPE

November 27, 2014. The Thanksgiving Holiday is my favorite holiday because it is about sitting around with family and friends and enjoying a hearty meal that I prepare once a year. The holiday is about recalling the many traditions that have been handed down from prior generations. On our Thanksgiving table, Nana's Pumpkin Bread is one such tradition. Our family has been enjoying this moist delicious bread for close to 50 years. I am happy to share this recipe with all. It is always the first to go. Go to recipe.

THE CHANGING NYC SKYLINE

November 16, 2014.  I recall looking down Park Avenue from the Upper East Side and seeing the Pan Am building visually closing the avenue's horizon. The view downtown changed slightly when the current Met Life sign replaced the iconic Pan Am sign in the early 1990s, but the view is in the midst of a major shake up with the addition of the new skyscraper at 432 Park Avenue. This 1,396 feet high needle building will have 96 floors and certainly grabs your attention as you look down Park Ave. Read about changes...

IT'S ZILLOW'S WORLD AFTER ALL

October 27, 2014. My customers ask me which listing website they should use for their apartment searches. This used to be an easy answer: use The New York Times. For many years, the NYT was the go-to source, combining listings from most of the major and minor brokerage firms. But times have changed. It is rare now that I get a customer that is using the NYT listings. So, what are the new alternatives?
