January is almost at an end

and thankfully the first signs of Spring are in the air. We've had a busy month. For many of the families we work with, January has been particularly difficult as the impacts of the new Single Person Child Carer Credit are felt for the first time. Have your say on this topic in our monthly survey below.
Our Director of Policy and Programmes, Stuart Duffin, was a panelist at the first FamiliesandSocieties Stakeholder Seminar in Brussels on 28th January, when leading experts from research, policy, and NGOs met to discuss the most recent evidence on children in vulnerable situations and the potential scope of policy interventions. Read Stuart's comments here.
Today saw the publication of the Heads of the Children & Family Relationships Bill 2014 by Minister Alan Shatter. Read more about this,
our upcoming accredited training courses for professionals, and lots more below.

20th Anniversary

2014 is the 20th anniversary of the United Nations International Year of the Family. One Family has been working to mark this anniversary. We already celebrate the UN International Day of the Family with our annual Family Day Festival. One Family has signed up to the Declaration of the Civil Society and we're planning to acknowledge this important anniversary in many ways.
Read more here and don't forget to mark your diaries for Family Day on Sunday 18th May.

Budget Panel

Earlier this month, we put out a call for parents to engage with our Budget 2015 Panel which will consist of ten lone parents and/or parents sharing parenting who will collaborate with One Family throughout 2014 to produce a budget submission which reflects the lived reality for lone parents in Ireland. You can contribute too by taking our anonymous monthly survey. Each short, 3-question survey will focus on a different budget submission topic. This month, it's on the Single Person Child Carer Tax Credit. Take the survey here. Click here for our askonefamily update on the Credit.

Bill Published

We welcome the publication of the Heads of the Children & Family Relationships Bill 2014 by Minister Alan Shatter today. As an organisation that has campaigned for over 40 years for legal recognition and support for the wide diversity of families that children live in, we believe this Bill is a good first step that is long overdue. However, we have concerns about how aspects of the Bill can really be implemented. You can read our response here
