A month of news from One Family.

This month we released our Annual Review 2014 which records that our askonefamily helpline continues to respond to an unprecedented rise in numbers of distressed callers. In 2014, helpline calls rose by 30%. This followed a 20% rise in 2013; and in 2015, to date, we have seen a staggering 50% increase. This increase is largely as a result of the concerns and confusion experienced by parents around the reform of the One-Parent Family Payment.

We issued this press release highlighting how this reform is failing our families and received a lot of media coverage including RTÉ 1 News which featured interviews with our CEO Karen Kiernan and Michelle McFarland, a parent who was working part-time prior to be being transitioned but subsequently felt she had no option but to give up her job and is now experiencing greater levels of poverty. More parents' real-life experiences of this reform process can be read here.

Autumn is on the horizon and it's back to school time; a busy and expensive time for parents, but a re-establishment of routine that can be welcomed. Our back to school tips may be helpful. For young adults starting college, this is an exciting time though it can bring concerns too, especially for parents of a child moving away from home for the first time. Here are some suggestions which may support parents in parenting a young adult. Our Facebook Parenting Group, featuring live weekly Q&A sessions, is a useful resource for all parents. You can join it here.

This is an ideal time of year for everyone to consider developing their skills and learning more. Our newly expanded schedule of programmes and courses for parents and for professionals is now available and booking for September. From 'Parent & Child Creative Drama', to 'Positive Parenting Online', to 'Options for Career Progression', there may be something that's just right for you.

We are currently recruiting for the new role of Communications & Marketing Officer: Part-time. Scroll down for more information on this, on our Annual Review, and for further details of our packed Autumn training courses schedule.
If you missed the award-winning Today FM documentary Cherish All The Children about our establishment
