HUMANITY MATTERS - SCHOLARSHIPS - BUILD GLOBAL COMMUNITY
MEET THE CHALLENGE:  Evaluate the significance of Emir Abdelkader's life and his struggles during peace, war, imprisonment, and exile in light of current events in America and the world. This is a great opportunity for dialog about stereotyping, about Islam and learning about its cultural heroes, often unsung in American textbooks. Admired by President Lincoln and other world leaders, Emir Abdelkader represents a model statesman, ethical leader and humanitarian so important for creating understanding and balance in thinking about critical issues today. Enjoy the journey!
Essay Scholarship Awards
Iowa High School students (1st Place $1,000; 2nd Place $500)
U.S. High School students (1st Place $1,000; 2nd Place $500)

“Beyond the inspirational nature of his actions,
Abdelkader’s tenants should function as a blueprint for human interactions.
Abdelkader was a revolutionary. His transcendent and progressive views about religion,
about human rights, and about where the two converge still inspire.”
~ Essay Winner James Wendt,
Naperville, IL
