In September 2018, leaders from all around the world gathered at the UN General Assembly to discuss the humanitarian state of our world today, but Gaza was not on the agenda. A month later, a group of 30 brave, passionate, and dedicated volunteers from around the world cycled 400km from Boston to the United Nations Headquarters New York, raising nearly £120,000 for Medical Aid for Palestinians projects in Gaza.

The Projects

Funds raised through the efforts of the cyclists will go directly to Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP), a reputable humanitarian charity operating in the Gaza Strip. The three main projects of the fundraising cycle are:

  1. The women's empowerment project, which aims to provide 1,890 women with one to one counselling sessions;
  2. The community rehabilitation project, which will allow 200 Palestinians with disabilities to attend 2 training workshops focused on capacity building, communication skills and self-confidence; and
  3. The mental health support program, which will engage 300 active members of the Gaza community in an attempt to build up the existing system.

The Cycle

“Going on the C4G trip this year was one of the most unforgettable experiences I’ve ever had. Within 4 days, I made amazing new friends from all over the world, who were all united and committed to doing all they could for Palestine”, said Amalee Nsour, a Jordanian American first-time cyclist..

This year, a diverse group of cyclists cycled for Gaza. The cyclists came from Canada, France, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Pakistan, Palestine, Switzerland, the UAE, the UK, USA and Uzbekistan.

The ride was one of our longest ones so far! Day 1 began with steep hills and long climbs. We rode 100km from Dayville, Connecticut to New London, Connecticut. On day 2, the 90km journey took us from New London to Stoney-Brook, New York. On day 3, we rode 94km to Staten Island and on the final day, we rode over 120km to NYC, stopping at the UN Headquarters followed by Washington Square Park.

Despite the very long days and the challenging climbs, the group kept a positive attitude, pushing their way through to the finish line. Family, friends, and several organizations and supporters greeted us and celebrated our efforts at Washington Square Park, making the challenging journey so worthy! A big shout out to everyone who made the finish line the strongest one yet!

“We rode together as one big family and while the ride was challenging at times, our collective support and strong passion for the cause motivated each and every one of us to make it to the finish line feeling proud and determined to continue to raise support and awareness for vital projects in Gaza”, said Dana Mahmoud, another first-time cyclist who joined the C4G2018 ride.

WE ARE £7,500 AWAY FROM REACHING £120,000 – HELP US REACH OUR GOAL!

Our continued support is critical at this time as UNRWA faces severe funding cuts. The US withdrawal of life saving funds has resulted in the loss of 30% ($300million) of UNRWA’s annual budget used to support the civil services, healthcare and education in the West Bank and Gaza. Today, UNRWA educates 500,689 children, feeds more than 1 million refugees and operates 143 primary health facilities with over 9 million patient visits; all of which are now in jeopardy. Our continued actions and support are vital for education, healthcare and capacity building projects in Gaza.

DONATE
Cycling4Gaza celebrates its 10th year in 2018, an annual fundraising cycle that in total has cycled over 3,000km in ten countries: The United Kingdom, France, Italy, Jordan, Turkey, Germany, the United States, the Netherlands, Norway, and Spain. Since its inception Cycling4Gaza has raised over £1.5 million for vital and sustainable healthcare and education projects in Gaza. These projects have impacted the lives of over 15,000 children and 8,000 families and community members in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon’s Palestinian refugee camps.

THANK YOU FOR BEING PART OF OUR 10 YEAR JOURNEY AND OUR C4G FAMILY!

We extend our deepest gratitude to the cyclists for their determination and hard work, to our charity partner MAP for being such an inspiration and for giving us the opportunity to support their critical efforts, and last but definitely not least, our supporters, donors and friends for making all of this possible. Without you all we couldn’t have been able to do this.
