SMJFL MEDIA DAY:

Are you a budding star of stage and screen? Would you like to be part of the SMJFLs media presence during the season? On Tuesday 4th April (school holidays) the SMJFL will be collecting images and sound grabs from clubs, players, coaches and umpires to use in promotions during the year.

CLICK HERE to find out how you can be involved.
NEW LAWS:

Please note that there are some re-interpretations of rules for 2017. The new edition of the Laws of Australian Football (L.O.A.F) is available via a link at the end of this newsletter. To view the new Designated Ruck rule go to our SMJFL website and click on Umpires > News.

For umpires with practice matches over the next few weeks, make sure you inform the coaches that you will be enforcing this rule. Remember to ask players to nominate who will be contesting the ruck contests so you can penalize any non-designated ruck who contests the ball.

PRACTICE MATCHES:

Information on how to put your name down for a practice match at some point before the season starts in a month is available on our SMJFL website under Umpires > Forms and Documents.

If you have been allocated a practice match and are new to umpiring and don't have a uniform yet, don't panic. Just wear a pair of Black or Grey shorts with a White t-shirt. If you want to get a "Trainee Vest" to wear you can pick one up from training at Moorleigh Reserve on Wednesday.

Remember your WHISTLE. Our coaches insist that the whistle should be an
ACME Thunderer (deep tone)
You can buy these at most good sporting stores for around $15-20

NEW FACEBOOK GROUP:

If you want to stay up to date with all the latest appointment possibilities and training information make sure you join our closed Facebook group. Some information will still be posted on the regular Facebook page, but the group will be more operational - the sort of information most non-umpires wouldn't be interested in!

Go to Facebook and search on "SMJFL umpires 2017" and request to join the group! There are already over 100 of our umpires using this resource, and it looks like being a great way for us to communicate in 2017.
