International Mr. Leather Weekend raises $87,000 for the Leather Archives & Museum
The Leather Archives & Museum announced today that International Mr. Leather weekend raised $87,000 for the LA&M during the 2015 Memorial Day Weekend event. In addition to donations from visitors to the IML Leather Market, funds were raised at a CLAW Nation silent auction, the raffle of a portable sling from Fort Troff, a roast of the outgoing International Mr. Leather (Ramien Pierre) and International Mr. Bootblack (Scout), and other fundraising events and gifts.
LA&M Treasurer Randall "Bear Man" Klett said "IML is a family reunion drawing members of our leather family from around the globe. The Leather Archives, through its collections, is the family historian. IML 2015 provided an opportunity to renew our connections to the past and allowed individuals and organizations to show support for the collections (the family stories) though their giving. We could not do what we do without the overwhelming support we receive during IML!" Proceeds from the IML Weekend account for approximately one quarter of the museum's 2015 forecasted funding budget.
In addition to fundraising events, hundreds of attendees enjoyed LA&M exhibits and programs at the IML host hotel and the museum itself. Programs included a screening of the new documentary "Age of Consent", a launch party for the Sailor Sid Diller piercing collection project and the Women and Trans reception.
