Saturday October 15, 5 pm.   Congregational Gratitude Dinner.  FREE!  Get your tickets on Sundays or from the church office.  Email office@kamloopsuntied.ca and we will hold tickets for you.  This is our way of saying thank you to you for being a part of KUC!  This is a catered meal.  Rev. Dr. John Pentland from Calgary is our guest speaker. 

Sunday October 30, 10am - 12 pm - Join us as we vision for the future for our church.  Have your input into how we will make decisions over the next five years.  An optional light lunch will follow.   
I was moved by Emily Vutev’s solo last Sunday in worship.  There is one line in the hymn, God of the Sparrow,  that always catches my attention: “How does the creature say thanks?”   This fall, I have said it many times in worship, and many times in my own life, “We have so much for which to be thankful.” 
 
At Council Circle, when we started to talk about what An Attitude of Gratitude meant for us, we recognized that we are thankful for the congregation, the faith community of Kamloops United Church.  That is YOU!  Then we wondered how we would express our thankfulness to people in the congregation and thought that a dinner would be a wonderful way to celebrate the way in which everyone at KUC has hung in there through COVID. 
 
This Saturday night, 5:00 pm is the dinner!  At Kamloops United Church!  We want YOU there!  Tickets are going fast but we have some left.  If you would like a free ticket, email me Michael Caveney and I will see that there is a ticket for you at the door.    We hope you are planning on joining us for our Attitude for Gratitude dinner!

Worship - Sunday, October 16, 2022

Do you have An Attitude of Gratitude?  This Sunday the Rev. Dr. John Pentland from Calgary will be speaking to us on "Fishing on the Other Side" based on the story of the tremendous catch that the disciples had when fishing when Jesus told them to put out their nets on the other side of the boat.   

Music Director Tomas Bijok has some great music lined up and we will be joned this Sunday by Emily Vutev - Soprano, Kayla Oerlemans - Alto, Ethan Gelinas - Tenor and Jordan Devuyst - Bass.    Rev. Dr. Michael Caveney will be the liturgist for the service.

The Rev. Dr. John Pentland from Calgary will be our guest speaker this weekend.   John has written the book Fishing Tips which talks about how we can reach out as a faith community in new ways.  A short bio:  He likes cycling, Schitt's Creek and microbreweries.  He dislikes sitting still and his favourite ice cream flavour is pralines and cream.

Baking Call for Oct 15th
We are excited about the Congregational Gratitude Dinner, on Saturday, October 15th. 

We are asking for your help with dessert!
Please drop off some baked goods at the church, and we will make sure to store them away until the Oct 15th dinner. You can bring the baking anytime the church is open and give it to Shakshi or leave it at the front office.

Ukrainian Monthly Dinner, 3rd Friday of the month

Join us for a dinner at Kamloops United Church as we welcome Ukrainians to our city!  We are partnering with TRU, Immigrant Services, the Ukrainian Society, and the Ukrainian Catholic Church.  We want YOU to be a part of the welcome.  The next dinner will be held on Friday, October 21st at 6:00 pm in the church hall.  If you plan to attend, please contact the church office by sending an email:  office@kamloopsunited.ca

Sharing & Caring is loosely based on the UK’s The Listening Café
(thelisteningcafe.co.uk)

During this listening hour participants will be paired off randomly into Zoom
breakout rooms. For the first five minutes, one participant will be “sharing” (even
silence is welcomed) while the other “caring” participant will mute themselves and listen without judgment and without offering solutions or trying to fix anything. At the end of the five-minute mark, the “caring” (listening) party will simply state, “I heard you” and then the roles will reverse for another five minutes. Afterwards, we will regroup, assess, and repeat.

Many of us have lost loved ones over the past three years and due to COVID, we haven’t had the proper opportunity to say goodbye. 
Kamloops United Church would like to invite you and your family to a service of remembering those dear to us on Saturday, November 12 at 2:30 pm.   At this time, their names will be read out and there will be an opportunity for you to light a candle in their honour.  There will be an opportunity for you to add names to the list. 
A reception will follow in the church hall. 
We look forward to seeing you there.
