Practical Tips for Busy Children's Leaders

Memorizing Scripture

Childhood is a wonderful time for children to store up God’s Word in their hearts. They are able to memorize easily and the verses they learn will stay with them for life.  Use fun activities to repeat the verse often.

Practical Tip

Play “Musical Feet” to help your students learn the memory verse you have taught. Cut out large footprints from poster board and print each of the words of the verse and the reference on separate footprints. Use the footprints to make a large circle on the floor. Have the same number of children as there are footprints stand on the inside of the circle and move in the same direction when you begin playing music. Remove one footprint while the music is playing. Then pause the music and wait for each child to step onto a footprint. Ask the children to repeat the verse without the aid of the missing word. Have the child who is left standing without a footprint remove the next one when the music begins again and then sit down. If there are more children than words in the verse, play the game several times until all the children have had an opportunity to play.
The more the children can repeat the verse, the more likely they are to remember it. Memorized Scripture is a long-term investment in the life of a child.
