A Springtime Message

A message from the SHCA President

Springtime is just around the corner, and as we excitedly look forward its arrival, we continue to focus on our great community, including our beautiful park. Michele Cozart, Programming Co-ordinator, has researched and brought forward an idea to our board for a Fitness Trail in the WJL Harvey park. This proposed trail would, every so often, provide a station to do chin-ups, another station to do sit-ups, etc. The equipment is metal construction and therefore not easily broken. We are only in the preliminary stages of organizing and funding the equipment but it is exciting to be on the cutting edge of this possible addition to our park. Cam Kenny and Lana Mestrovic are assisting our Board’s project by researching possible funding. If you know of someone who would be interested in funding a project such as this, please contact Michele at programming@silverwoodcommunity.org.

I’d like to thank the board for all of their time and effort in making our community a great place to live. Our board is currently looking for new members to help continue to make a positive difference in our community.  Examples of positions available are Social Director, to organize events such as “Fun day in the Park”, Movie nights for the kids and other holiday celebrations for our community.  Member-at-Large positions are also available, among others.  We would love to have you as part of the team so please let us know if you are interested.   Together, let’s continue the momentum to make our community safe, beautiful and simply one of the best.  Looking forward to many more great things to come!

It is recommended that you bring a pair of cycling or weight lifting gloves to protect your hands while performing exercises on the grass, and that you wear a hat.

Silverwood Community Wide GARAGE SALE

May 25, 2013
9:00am – 4:00pm
 (or determined by each household)

The SHCA will advertise this sale in a newspaper and online for you and will publish the public interactive map link online. For more information, and to submit your listing to our interactive map please click here.

Wet Sports Fields

Just a little reminder as the snow retreats and the sports fields in the parks reappear.  The correct behaviour is to stay off and do not play organized sports on the soaking wet fields until they are dry.  Playing on soggy soft fields damages or kills the turf and the fields turn into a mud pit then dry rock hard.

 2013 – 2014 SCHOOL YEAR
The Academic year for 2013 – 2014 has been approved by the Catholic Board of Education. It has been attached to the newsletter. Much work went into the preparation of the school calendar with new regulations mandated by the provincial government. The school year will include 195 days instead of 197 but each day will have 15 minutes more instruction time. This allows the school division to maintain the same number of breaks during the school year. You will notice a full two-week Christmas break, a one-week February break for students and a full one-week break for Easter. Further details will be shared on the impact of adding 15 minutes of instruction to each day.

HOST FAMILIES NEEDED - The Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools, International Student Program, is in need of host families in the North end of Saskatoon. Email international@gscs.sk.ca for more information.
