Dear Neighbour,
Last Friday, the Ontario Government introduced additional public health measures on the advice of the Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health, in response to alarming public health trends in Toronto, Ottawa and the Region of Peel. These additional public health measures include:
- Reducing limits for all social gatherings and organized public events to a maximum of 10 people indoors and 25 people outdoors where physical distancing can be maintained. The two limits may not be combined for an indoor-outdoor event;
- Prohibiting indoor food and drink service in restaurants, bars and other food and drink establishments, including nightclubs and food court areas in malls;
- Closing of:
- Indoor gyms and fitness centres (i.e., exercise classes and weight and exercise rooms);
- Casinos, bingo halls and other gaming establishments;
- Indoor cinemas;
- Performing arts centres and venues;
- Spectator areas in racing venues;
- Interactive exhibits or exhibits with high risk of personal contact in museums, galleries, zoos, science centres, landmarks, etc.;

Effective tomorrow, Friday October 16th, short-term and temporary absences for social or personal reasons will not be allowed at long-term care homes in areas of the province where there is higher community spread of COVID-19. This directive has only been issued in the City of Toronto, Ottawa and the Region of Peel.
Access to homes will continue to be facilitated for essential caregivers. Each resident or their substitute decision maker may appoint up to two essential caregivers, which can include family members. Under current visitation guidance, only one essential caregiver may attend at a time.

Today is Global Handwashing Day - which is a habit I'm sure we have all been practicing over the past few months. One of the simplest ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is by washing your hands frequently!
