Toronto to vote on making Sanctuary City a reality

After a long day in committee on May 22, the City's plan to implement last year's historic Sanctuary City vote is finally coming back to City Council. Motion 29.11 comes to a vote on June 10th.

This is what we've been waiting for - concrete steps to make the promise Toronto made in Feb 2013 a living reality for Toronto's undocumented communities. Community mobilization shaped this policy, and it has shaped this implementation plan.
Contact your Councilor and get them to support this motion!
We still don't have the 23 Councillors we need to win the vote. Many Councillors will be deciding which way to vote on the day itself. That means we need you, and 99 of your best friends, sitting in City Hall on June 10th at 9am letting them know they are being watched.

For nearly 400,000+ Torontonians who don't have full immigration status, this is critical. This vote could mean feeling a little bit safer when trying to go to the community centre or be able to get your kid into daycare.

For the last ten years, we have organized in Toronto schools, shelters, food banks and health centres to ensure access without fear.  Again and again local residents, staff at social services, and undocumented people have joined together to create real, independent, community based services.

No matter what happens on June 10th, whether we win or lose the vote, the work is not over. On June 10th, and after, let's continue. Let's ensure that decisions about public services are made by people that use them and those work at them. Be part of this work. Together, let's build a city of solidarity.

Join us at City Hall on June 10th!
