School Daze Movie Festival
and Call for Entries
Local Art Center Sponsors Student Movie Festival
COTTAGE GROVE, OR: The Opal Center for Arts and Education in Cottage Grove announces its Call for Entries to its School Daze Movie Festival. Selected movies will screen from March 19-22, 2015 and winners will receive cash prizes up to $250. The festival is open to student movie makers of all ages. Deadline for submissions is February 28, 2015.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the the top three movies in two categories -- under eighteen and over eighteen. Judging will be by committee and with the votes of audience members. Movies are limited to a maximum of 30 minutes in length. The Opal Center will serve as the screening venue. Opal has a top-notch digital projection and sound system and seats 50.
"Our goal with this festival is to highlight student filmmakers." explains Leah Murray, Executive Director of the Opal Center. "We want to encourage and support them now so they will continue to reach for their potential." Festival organizers are especially interested in movies that are using new media approaches.
In addition to the screenings, there will be workshops offered during the four-day schedule. Topics will include how to write a screen play, the potential for crowd funding, and using new media in the movie making process, such as using a “smart†phone in video production.
