Parent Workshop

On April 4th, we were blessed to have Caitlin E. McAndrews from McAndrews Law Offices provide an information session about children with ADHD. Our parents, staff, and community partners learned about the many rights and opportunities families have who have children diagnosed with ADHD. Parents were given a plan of action; including tools they could implement at home to cultivate their child’s gifts. They were also equipped to partner with teachers in order to provide the best care for their child. We are incredibly grateful to the McAndrews Law office for taking the time to inform our community about this important and difficult issue.

Art Show

This year, DayBreak’s 4th-5th graders participated in an art class led by Hannah Stark, Arcinda Edwards, and Lindsey Parker, 3 of our devoted volunteers. On May 3, we had an Art Show so friends and family could come enjoy their sculptures, creative paper designs, and more. Cha’lita Willie and Sabrina Burton shared a few words on the importance of art and self expression and what they gained from the class. All of our budding artists shared the inspiration for their artwork with their guests. We are so proud of our students for working so hard and having so much fun in art class this year!

Engineering Day

On May 18th, several employees from ExxonMobil came to DayBreak to host an Engineering workshop for students in 4th – 8th grades from Lincoln Heights. Students built rafts and towers then competed to see whose raft could hold the most pennies and whose tower was strongest and cheapest. The students had a blast learning that engineering can be fun!

End of the Year Celebration!

On Thursday, June 6th, DayBreak students and their families came to DayBreak to celebrate all that we did during the 2012-2013 school year. The children performed a dance choreographed by Ms. Tiffany and the graduating 5th graders shared reflections on their experience at DayBreak. Below are a few pictures from the party in addition to reflections shared by 5th grader Diamonte Timmons. We had a great year and are excited to kick off our summer program on July 1!
"My experience in DayBreak has been learning the many things about the gospel. I learned to run away from the problem and turn to Christ for help. I enjoyed my time in the blue room with Mr. Mike. I enjoyed learning about states and capitols and all of the fun games Mr. Mike did in the class. I also loved Bible time and learning all the great things Christ has done for us like dying on the cross for our sins so we can come close to God. Even in my hardest times, Daybreak has helped me stay focused and has always been there for me. I want to thank them for being here with me and my family."
