AK Dispatch- A maritime company that for at least two decades has provided tugboats to escort loaded oil tankers out of Prince William Sound, is no longer competing for the contract to provide that service, causing alarm among observers who don’t want a repeat of the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill.

Mayor- One Vacancy to serve a Two-Year Term.
City Council- Three Vacancies, each to serve a Two-Year Term.
School Board- Two Vacancies, each to serve a Three-Year Term and One Vacancy to serve a One-Year Term.
Nominating petitions may be obtained at the City Clerk's Office and are due this Tuesday, Mar 15th.

SNOWMACHINER SAYS HE KILLED IDITAROD DOG WHILE DRIVING DRUNK
AK Dispatch- A snowmachiner says he was driving drunk when he hit two dog teams racing in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race Saturday, killing one dog and injuring several others. Two Rivers musher Aliy Zirkle and Denali Park’s Jeff King reported that a snowmachiner repeatedly tried to hit their dog teams as they traveled to the Yukon River checkpoint of Nulato early Saturday morning. KVAK is looking for a part-time employee to help with entering orders, bookkeeping and billing. This is a summer position, but has potential to become year-round. Duties include: answering phones; checking e-mail, working with businesses and the public, and working with KVAK staff on community and station events. Experience in bookkeeping is a plus, but willing to train.  We’re looking for a dependable and outgoing person interested in learning new skills and working in a fast-paced environment. FAT TIRE BIKE RAFFLE


Levitation 49 in partnership with the Prospector is raffling off a fat tire bike as part of the bike bash.  Tickets will be available at the Valdez Prospector - $10 for one ticket or $25 for 3 tickets. The raffle will be held at the Fat Mermaid on the evening of March 19th. Need not be present to win.


To win, guess the closest date and time for when one of the tower flags touches the ice at Ruth Pond.

Tickets are $3 at the Civic Center.
