SWIMMERS FINISH STRONG AT HOME

This past weekend Valdez High School hosted their annual swimming invitational. Colony, Palmer, Wasilla, and Cordova joined Valdez for a two day competition.

FOOTBALL FINISHES SEASON IN BARROW

This past weekend the VHS football team traveled to Barrow to face the Whalers for their final game of the season. The combination of cold and windy weather, in addition to a multitude of injuries to the team, proved a difficult challenge for Valdez.

LADY BUCS VICTORIOUS AT HOME

The Valdez High School Volleyball team dominated again this past weekend against the Eielson Ravens at home, winning all their game by a large margin. This weekend the team will travel to Anchorage for the Grace Christian School Invitational.

WOMEN OF THE WORLD COMING OCTOBER 16

The Arts Council is excited to bring the accapella singing group “Women of the World” to Valdez Sunday, October 16th. This award winning quartet will take the audience at the Civic Center on a musical journey through Africa, South America Asia and Europe through storytelling, dance and improvisation. “Women of the World” was mentored by grammy winner Bobby McFerrin and has collaborated with powerhouse songstress Nona Hendryx and the Boston Pops Orchestra. Tickets are available at Rogue’s Garden before the show and at the door the night of the show.

WEDNESDAY IS NATIONAL WALK TO SCHOOL DAY

HHES students, along with millions of children around the world will walk or bike to school together as a community. We are encouraging parents, community members teachers and children of all ages to join us.
-Mayor Ruth Knight will walk from GMS to HHES and pick up students along the route on West Hanagita Street, Copper and Black Gold subdivision.
-Mrs. Gilson will walk from the hospital to the elementary via Meals Street, to Pioneer Street picking up students along the way.
-A group in Cottonwood subdivision will walk together led by parents.
Walking will begin at 7:30 am and end at the school at 7:50 am where we will take a large group photo.
If you are able to lead a group to walk or bike to school, or can help out at the school as a crossing guard, please call Tracy Gilson 255-2250.

FBI RELEASES NEW STATS, REVEALING INCREASE IN CRIME IN ALASKA
KTVA- The latest statistics from the Federal Bureau of Investigation show an upward trend in violent crime in Alaska. The information in the Uniform Crime Reporting Program (UCR) reveals Alaska is not alone in this development; violent crime is up nearly four percent nationwide.
