VALDEZ WRESTLING INVITE

The annual VHS “Throw Down In Snow Town” wrestling tournament is scheduled for this Friday, October 21st thru Saturday, October 22nd. Valdez will be hosting 11 teams from around the state of Alaska in an intense 2 day tournament.

ANNUAL FLU SHOT CLINIC COMING OCTOBER 29th

Providence Valdez Medical Center, Valdez Local Emergency Preparedness Committee, State of Alaska Department of Health & Social Services, and the City of Valdez will once again be offering flu shots to the public free of charge. The event will be held Saturday, October 29th from 1pm to 3pm at the Valdez Civic Center.

GIANT NEW NORWEGIAN CRUISE LINE SHIP IS HEADED TO ALASKA
USA TODAY-  Get ready, Alaska: The big ships are coming. Norwegian Cruise Line on Thursday announced that one of its next new vessels, the 4,000-passenger Norwegian Bliss, will sail to the destination out of Seattle when it debuts in 2018. At 167,800 tons, Bliss will rank among the ten largest cruise vessels in the world, and it'll be significantly larger than the ships currently operating in the 49th State.

ALASKA RECEIVED EXTENSION TO MEET REAL ID REQUIREMENTS
KTUU-  The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has granted the state of Alaska an extension to comply with the REAL ID Act until June 6th of next year. Until that deadline, federal agencies will accept Alaska driver's licenses and state-issued identification cards.

FEMA FLOOD INSURANCE RATE MAP AND STUDY AVAILABLE
 
The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has presented the City of Valdez with Preliminary copies of the updated Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) for the City of Valdez, Alaska. FEMA has posted digital copies of the preliminary FIRM and FIS report materials for community members to review. BOOK BASKET DONATIONS BEING ACCEPTED

The Valdez Consortium Library is hosting the 17th Annual Book Basket Auction Saturday, November 5th and they are looking for donations of baskets to auction. Baskets are to be developed around a theme (fishing, gardening, travel, etc.) and should contain at least one new book and other items related to theme. Baskets may be dropped off at the library no later than 8pm Thursday, November 3rd. Proceeds will be used to enhance the library’s collection.

GREAT PUMPKIN CARVING CONTEST

Local carver Kay Noble is hosting a pumpkin carving contest with prizes.
Bring a carved pumpkin to the Halloween Carnival at the Civic Center Monday, October 31st at 6pm and you’ll be entered to win over $300 in prizes from Crowley Fuel and Safeway.
The pumpkins will be judged and prizes awarded at the carnival. Questions, call Kay at 907-223-5562.
