WINTER STORM BRINGS NEW SNOW TO VALDEZ
Residents report 24"-36" of new snow in town and Thompson Pass received 31" with 3.5" water equivalent (Valdez Avalanche Center). Heavy snow is expected to continue until late tonight.
PUBLIC INPUT SOUGHT ON CURRICULUM MATERIALS

Valdez City Schools has Social Studies sample materials on display for public viewing and evaluation at each of the schools. Please take the time to come in, look over the materials, and give your input. Materials are located in the HHES office conference room, the GMS office complex, and the VHS library. All materials will be on display until January 20th. Input is sought to help the School Board decide which Social Studies materials to adopt for the next six years.

Who attacked KVAK?!?
The New Year begins with a mystery here at KVAK.
It seems that a few well known Valdezeans have been making attempts on the life of our mascot K-VAK the duck. We need your help to figure out the following: the PERSON who is trying to kill K-VAK, the PLACE they made an attempt on our beloved mascot's life and what ITEM they used to hurt K-VAK. Check your KVAK e-mail newspaper each week for a clue about who attacked K-VAK and listen to 93.3FM and 1230AM Monday to hear a clip of the perps voice. On Tuesday, listen on-air for the clue about where the crime took place. Wednesday, you’ll get a clue about the item our perp used to commit their crime. On Thursday we will air all of the clues so you can piece it together.

BUCCANEER BASKETBALL

BOYS TEAM HAD STRONG PLAY IN THREE GAME WEEKEND
The boys varsity team finished the weekend with a 2-1 record for the first conference games of the season. The Bucs first game of their road trip was against Delta last Thursday. The 1st and 2nd quarters were even for the teams with the Huskies leading at half 21-19. In the next half the Bucs couldn’t seem to diminish the deficit and lost 66-53. Valdez was led by senior Seth Auble who scored 17 points and tallied 7 rebounds.

MOTT STANDOUT PLAYER OF WEEKEND
The VHS girls varsity team traveled to compete in a string of three games this past weekend. Last Thursday the Lady Bucs competed in their first game of three for the weekend, their opponent the Delta Huskies. Valdez won in emphatic fashion by a score of 60-41.

CONOCOPHILLIPS ANNOUNCES ALASKA DISCOVERY WITH DAILY PRODUCTION POTENTIAL OF 100,000 BARRELS

heralded a promising new oil discovery on its leases in the nation's petroleum reserve in Alaska that could produce up to 100,000 barrels of oils daily, possibly providing some replacement to depleted production from Prudhoe Bay.
