ALLISON CREAK POWER PLANT OFFICIALLY OPENS
Pipe (Penstock) that carries water into the turbine at the new Allison Creek Power Plant
Copper Valley Electric flipped the switch on their new Allison Creek Power Plant Wednesday afternoon. Currently CVEA receives 55 percent of their power from hydro. This project brings the percentage of hydro power up to 69 percent, making Valdez less dependent on fossil fuels. The project took several years to build and includes a 7,000 foot run of penstock to run underground from the diversion structure to the power house. This week KVAK will have the opportunity to talk with CVEA’s Chief Operating Officer Travis Million and we will share that interview with the public on Friday during the 9am, Noon and 6pm news hours.
