EXCITING GAMES AT STATE FOR VHS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM
Boys Place Fifth at State


Boys Basketball Coach Todd Wegner and the VHS bench celebrates a good play at the State Tournament in Anchorage.
The boys varsity team competed in 3A State Tournament this past weekend. The Bucs first game of the tournament was against the ACS Lions. Valdez stayed in control for most of the game outscoring the Lions in three of the four quarters, ultimately winning the game 68-56. Sophomore Logan Heckathorn was the standout offensive player for Valdez during the game leading the team in scoring with 17 points.

VHS Boys State vs Sitka
On Friday, the Bucs competed against the Monroe Catholic Rams for a spot in the championship game.

Lady Bucs Compete at State

Senior Tori Franciosi played her last game at the State Tournament
The VHS Varsity Girls basketball team competed in the 3A state basketball tournament last weekend in Anchorage. The Lady Bucs came into the tournament as the 7th overall seed for the tournament. 
On Thursday the girls had their first game for the tournament against the Sitka Wolves. This proved to be a difficult matchup for Valdez.

On Friday, Valdez had to beat Grace Christian to earn a spot in the 4th place game.

Those two losses concluded the tournament run for the girls. They finished the year with a regular season record of 18-12 and finished 10-4 in their division. In addition, the Lady Bucs finished 1st place in the regional tournament.

If you would like to have your voice heard in the next local election, you must be a resident of the State of Alaska and City of Valdez for 30 days immediately preceding the election. PUBLIC MEETING SCHEDULED
APRIL 6 TO DISCUSS CHANGES TO FEMA FLOOD MAPPING


Multiple agencies will be hosting a public meeting in Valdez on Thursday, April 6th at 6pm to highlight changes to FEMA flood mapping along the City of Valdez coastline, Lowe River, Robe River, Valdez Glacier Stream, and Mineral Creek.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State of Alaska Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development will discuss draft FEMA flood map revisions for Valdez and explain what these revisions mean for property owners.

BLM INVITES PUBLIC COMMENT ON VALDEZ CREEK MINING COMPANY, LLC'S AMENDED MINING PLAN OF OPERATIONS
 The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Glennallen Field Office has opened a 30-day public review and comment period to inform the BLM analysis for Valdez Creek Mining Company, LLC’s (VCM) proposed amended plan of operations to add two additional federal mining claims to its existing operating plan.

ANNUAL TEST OF TSUNAMI WARNING SYSTEM THIS WEDNESDAY BETWEEN
10:15 and 10:45AM


The State of Alaska Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHS&EM) will be standing up the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) on March 29th during the annual test of the Tsunami Warning System. Expect to hear the sirens and emergency broadcast system. Test will be cancelled in the event of seismic activity.


Valdez City Schools is requesting applications from interested persons to serve on the Professional Growth Model Committee which reviews the teacher evaluation system. The purpose of this committee is to review and recommend updates to the current teacher evaluation system. Anyone interested in applying should contact Valdez City Schools at 835-4357, or stop by the District Office. CLICK HERE to download application or stop by the VCS District Office, 1112 W. Klutina. Please return applications to the District Office by 4:30 pm THIS Friday, March 31st. Specific meeting dates and times will be established after committee members are selected.
