ALEX PLOWMAN OF FAIRBANKS SETS RECORD IN KIDS PINK SALMON DERBY
Alex Plowman said he knew the fish he caught for the Valdez Kids Pink Salmon Derby was a big one, but he had no idea it would set a record. Plowman reeled in a 10.12 pound pink salmon Saturday to win the 8 to 10 year old age division.

KVAK HOSTED
KIDS BROADCASTING CAMP
Last week, the staff of KVAK worked with students on a variety of radio techniques.
The kids wrote radio ads for Gold Rush, learned about editing, read and produced radio spots, conducted live on-air giveaways and were the emcees for the Kids Pink Salmon Derby.

PIPELINE AT 40: ROBOTS ON PATROL FOR CORROSION
KTUU- After its 800-mile journey across Alaska, oil that flows through the Trans Alaska Pipeline ends up at the Valdez Marine Terminal, which is a $1.4-billion dollar facility that was built on a site, blasted from the mountainside, above Valdez harbor, in the early 1970s.

SILVER SALMON DERBY UNDERWAY, HALIBUT DERBY GOING STRONG
The Valdez Silver Salmon derby began Saturday and the largest fish weighed in so far is a 12.42 pound silver salmon caught by Weston Branshaw of Valdez aboard the High Mark. Amid the chaos of hundreds of kids weighing in pink salmon for the Kids Pink Salmon Derby, one young lady brought a silver salmon to the weigh-in.

COAST GUARD SPENT $300K SEARCHING FOR MAN WHO FAKED DEATH
US News- The U.S. Coast Guard racked up $311,000 in expenses searching for an Alaska man who faked his own death to avoid going to prison in a sexual assault case, according to federal prosecutors.

RESEARCH SHIPS FIND ALASKA CRAB BOAT THAT SANK IN BERING SEA
US News- Federal research ships have found a crab boat that sank with six men on board in the Bering Sea.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says the Destination, a 98-foot (30-meter) crab boat that disappeared Feb. 11, was found upright in 250 feet (76 meters) of water off St. George Island.
