The VHS Varsity Girls basketball team competed in the 3A state basketball tournament last weekend in Anchorage. The Lady Bucs came into the tournament as the 3rd overall seed for the tournament.  READ STORY

Spring is here and that means the rabbit population in Valdez will become active. Many love the furry little creatures, but others don't enjoy the damage they do to gardens and property. ALASKA SHIELD ACTIVE SCHOOL SHOOTER EXERCISE TO BE HELD THIS SATURDAY AT GMS
Valdez first responders will participate in the 2016 Alaska Shield state-wide exercise this Saturday, April 2nd from 9am-1pm.  Expect to see emergency vehicles, role players, uniformed officers with mock weapons and loud noises in and around Gilson Middle School.

Nicolas Alfaro will be participating in the Alaska National Geography Bee in Anchorage on Friday. He is representing the Valdez elementary and middle schools as he competes with 99 other students.

NCAA- Alaska-Anchorage takes down Grand Valley State 67-47, for a chance to take home the 2016 DII Women's Basketball title. The Seawolves finished with four ladies scoring in double digits on the way to their victory.

U.S. Attorney Karen L. Loeffler announced today that Joseph Cecil, aka
“Kevin Dupree,” 53, of Sacramento, California, was sentenced to 10 years in prison.  Cecil orchestrated a system wherein the drugs were sent to Alaska from California.  READ MORE

NOAA Fisheries and partners are seeking the public’s help investigating the increase of dead large whales in the Gulf of Alaska. If you spot a dead beached or floating whale, report it to the Alaska Marine Mammal Stranding Network at 1-877-925-7773.

KVAK HIRING

KVAK is looking for a part-time employee to help with entering orders, bookkeeping and billing. This is a year-round, part-time position (Monday through Friday 9am to 2pm). Duties include:answering phones; checking e-mail, working with businesses and the public, and working with KVAK staff on community and station events. Experience in bookkeeping is a plus, but willing to train.  We’re looking for a dependable and outgoing person interested in learning new skills and working in a fast-paced environment.
