FREE AVALANCHE CENTER TRAINING TONIGHT

Valdez Avalanche Center provides training, forecasts and information to help outdoor enthusiasts prepare for their adventures in and around Valdez.
Valdez Avalanche Center will be at the Prospector Monday, November 28th
from 6 to 7:30pm to conduct a free training class. This will be a great introductory class for people new to Valdez and a great refresher course for those who live here. Free training and complimentary coffee, hot chocolate and cookies.

VHS MUSIC TO PERFORM AT PEARL HARBOR
This weekend 28 VHS band and choir members will be traveling to Honolulu, Hawaii to participate in the 75th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor concert. The students will leave Sunday for six days and will join 1,200 band and 300 choir members from across the nation. They will be performing at the Pearl Harbor Memorial sight in front of the USS Missouri on Pearl Harbor Day, Wednesday December 7th.

BREWERY LICENSE APPROVED FOR VALDEZ BREWING COMPANY, NEXT STEP ZONING
Amanda Hatton from Valdez Brewing Company attended the Valdez City Council meeting Tuesday, November 22nd to seek approval for a brewery license. Hatton intends to open a very small tasting style brewery here in Valdez. “We are one of the only communities in the state that does not have a brewery at this point and we have some of the best components. We have some of the best water in the world and a community that could really benefit,” Hatton said.

REGULATORS: TANKER-TRUCK CRASHES AND SPILLS AN INCREASING WORRY ON ALASKA HIGHWAYS
ADN- Federal and state regulators in Alaska say they're working to stem what has been a growing number of tanker-truck accidents in recent years — including three big rollovers since September that dumped thousands of gallons of diesel fuel into woods and wetlands. Residents in towns along the Richardson Highway where those and many other spills have occurred say they worry an out-of-control fuel tank will slam into traffic or damage fish habitat with a spill, including the salmon-rich Copper River with its prized fisheries.

ALASKA TRAFFIC FATALITIES UP SHARPLY SO FAR IN 2016
ADN- Alaska roads are on track for one of the deadliest years in the last decade, according to state officials who say the number of fatal crashes has sharply increased from last year. The state had seen 75 traffic fatalities this year resulting from 69 fatal collisions as of Monday, the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities said in a statement.
