FRIENDLY REMINDER REGARDING NORDIC SKI TRAILS
The VHS Ski Team and Community Remind Everyone
Eric Auten of Valdez dominated the community racers division using classic technique in the 7k event and was the overall winner of the Town Ski Race Saturday. VHS senior Rylee Norris finished 1st in the high school division with an outstanding classic race. Norris was followed closely by junior Ben Swanson who also had a strong classic.

The East Dike of the Nordic ski trail is closed to all motorized vehicles from Cato Bridge to Mineral Creek Road. In Mineral Creek Canyon, the Nordic trails on both sides of Mineral Creek Road are designated for skiing only and no motorized vehicles or bikes are permitted on this venue. Bikes create ruts that are very dangerous to skiers. A $300 fine is possible for violating these regulations.
ALISA HELLER FINISHES 4TH AT STATE
Last weekend was the 3A State Wrestling tournament hosted at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage. This year Valdez had two wrestlers qualify to compete in the two day tournament, Alisa and Orion Heller. Orion qualified for state by winning 2nd
place in the regional tournament the week prior. Alisa, who had one 1st
place in her region, finished the two day tournament with a 4th
place finish in Anchorage at the 120 pound weight division.
VCS WINTER BREAK BEGINS THURSDAY
This year, the Valdez City Schools will have Winter Break beginning Thursday, Dec 22nd through Jan 4th. HHES will have an early release this Wednesday
, with school getting out at 1:50pm.
Dec 18- An immature eagle has been reported to be hanging around outside a local business. The eagle was seen taking a piece of freshly fried chicken out of someone’s hand as they walked to their vehicle.

ALASKA GOV. WALKER LOOKS AGAIN TO PERMANENT FUND FOR REVENUE IN NEW BUDGET PROPOSAL
Alaska Gov. Bill Walker unveiled a state budget proposal Thursday that sets the stage for another battle with lawmakers over the future of the Permanent Fund. The $5 billion spending plan assumes that the Legislature will agree to restructure the fund and use some of its earnings to pay for government — a step the state House refused to take last year, even with Alaska facing a huge deficit stemming from low oil prices.

FORMER ALASKA BUSINESSMAN FACES CHARGES FOR DISTRIBUTING $1B IN IRANIAN FUNDS
ADN- A businessman with longtime ties to Alaska has been charged in federal court for his alleged role in illegally distributing $1 billion in Iranian funds to countries worldwide. Kenneth Zong, 77, is named as the sole defendant in the 47-count indictment handed up by a federal grand jury in Anchorage on Wednesday, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Alaska.
