VHS ACADEMIC DECATHLON TEAM TAKES BRONZE

The VHS Academic Decathlon team, coached by Adam Sharri, had the opportunity to compete in the Alaska Academic Decathlon competition in Anchorage. Valdez High School took Bronze in the Division II competition. They also won Bronze in the Super Quiz. The top scoring student from the VHS team was Jared Bowden, who won Gold in the Music Category, and Bronze in Science and Econ.

UNDERAGE HOUSE PARTY LEADS TO TWO ARRESTS, TWO CRIMINAL SUMMONS
Valdez Police Department officers arrested two adults and issued two additional criminal summons following investigation of an underage alcohol and marijuana house party. A parent made a telephone complaint to the VPD, who followed up with the situation.

NORRIS WINS FIRST IN STATE FOR 3A CROSS COUNTRY SKIING
Courtesy of VHS Ski Coach Pete Toye – Senior Rylee Norris had outstanding performances this past weekend. In Thursday’s 5K classic race she finished 26^th overall but 1^st in 3A; in Friday’s 7.5 skate race she also finished 26^th overall and 2^nd in 3A. Norris’s combined times for both days placed her in 24^th overall and were the fastest in 3A earning her the coveted title of 3A Skimeister.

VHS SENIOR INVITED TO JUILLIARD FINAL ROUND AUDITIONS

Valdez High School senior, Christopher Cummins, leaves Valdez on Wednesday on an adventure not many have the talent—or the nerve—to claim. But this one is on Chris’s bucket list. After a long weekend at the ASAA State Nordic Ski Championships, Christopher and his tuba, Archibald, are heading to New York City for an audition at the Juilliard School of Music.

TODAY IS SEWARD'S DAY
Seward's Day is an Alaskan state holiday to commemorate the signing of the Alaska Purchase treaty on March 30, 1867. The holiday falls on the last Monday each March. Seward’s Day is named after William Henry Seward, the Secretary of State who signed the treaty with Russia. Many government offices close for the holiday.
