HALIBUT FISHING GOING STRONG IN VALDEZ

The Valdez Fish Derbies weigh-in station was busy with anglers weighing in fish for a chance to take home the Halibut Hullabaloo grand prize. Many fish were weighed in just over 100 pounds. Currently leading the Halibut Hullabaloo is Larry Bazilwich of Fairbanks with a 150.4 pound halibut he caught June 11
th aboard the
Jaime Lynn.

Bazilwich stands to win a $1,000 cash prize in addition to regular derby prizes if his fish is the largest weighed in between June 10
th and 19
th.

SEA LION TAKES ON SALMON SHARK IN PRINCE WILLIAM SOUND – AND WINS
ADN- Professional photographer Daryl Pederson, commercial gillnetters, sea lions and others converged off the coast of Esther Island in Prince William Sound on Wednesday, all in search of the chum salmon run. He spotted a sea lion and something else: "I thought it was a big halibut that the sea lion had caught." Soon he realized that the "big halibut" was actually a salmon shark.

24th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON BEAR RESEARCH AND MANAGEMENT

Every 18 months, bear biologists and professionals from around the world meet to present current research, management and conservation efforts. This year’s conference will be held in Anchorage this week. Past conferences have been held in Greece, India, and Georgia Republic.
