Most Patriotic Business Decorating Competition
Judging at 9am
Businesses throughout town will compete for the most Patriotic Business in town. This is a FREE contest to Valdez establishments in the downtown area. The winning business will receive the "Most Patriotic Business" plaque as well as a free 1/8th page size advertisement spot valued at $450 in the Valdez Convention & Visitors Bureau Vacation Guide.

Uncle Salmon 5K & 10K Fun Run
9:30am Race Begins
The Fun Run begins and ends at the South Barney Meyring Park Strip on Pioneer, across the street from the Fire Station.
Registration is FREE. All ages welcome.

Summer Art Contest, Display & Public Voting
Public Voting: Saturday, July 1- Tuesday, July 4th (10am-3pm), Civic Center
This summer’s art contest is all about Ravens!
Return your decorated Raven to the Civic Center no later than Friday, June 30th, at 5pm.
All entries will be on display at the Civic Center and available for
public voting Saturday, July 1st through Tuesday, July 4th (10am-3pm).
Open to all ages.

Kids’ Decorated Bike Parade
Parade Line‐Up: 11:50am
Parade Begins: Noon
The Kids’ Decorated Bike Parade will lead the Independence Day Parade. No pre‐registration is required. Again this year, adult‐monitored bike decorating will be available at the Eagle’s Hall on Hazelet Avenue beginning at 11am. Free Bike Decorating Kits will be available while supplies last. Participants are also encouraged to pre‐decorate, or bring additional items for decorating. Line‐up of the kids will take place promptly at 11:50 in the Eagle’s Parking Lot. The Kids on Decorated Bikes will be one of the leading parade entries.
Independence Day Parade

The Independence Day Parade is an opportunity for individuals, families, groups, businesses and organizations to show their patriotic spirit by participating in the parade with an entry or float. There will be no pre-registration this year. Registration for the parade is free. The theme is patriotic. Line‐up begins at 11:30am and takes place on West Egan Drive. The parade route is down Fairbanks Street.
Annual Valdez Mascot Race (During the Parade)
Be sure to watch the 5th Annual Valdez Mascot Race during the parade. All of your favorite local mascots will be challenging each other for the title of “Ultimate Mascot Champion.” It should be a hoot and a half!
Slow Bike Race
Directly following the Parade
How slow can you go on your bike? The slowest will win the race… (last one to cross the line without completely stopping or touching the ground.) Register right after the parade and line up on Fairbanks Street. Must have your our two wheel bike and helmet. Ages 7 and up, waivers must be signed by adult parent/guardian.

Fairbanks Street Block Party
12:30pm After the Parade to 3pm
The Block Party is an open street fair with food, craft and activity vendors. The Block Party is open to the public and lasts from 12:30pm until 3pm. Vendor Registration is available at VCVB (300 Fairbanks Drive) Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.
Fire Department Exhibition and Fire Station Tours
12:30-3pm, Fire Department, Fairbanks Drive
Owen Johnson Memorial Kids’ Games
1-3pm, Meyring Park Strip - Pioneer Drive
This memorial to Owen Johnson is sponsored and organized by the local Eagle’s Aerie #1971. Young people are invited to participate in old fashioned activities like sack races and the like. Participation is free. The games are held on the Barney Meyring Park Strip across Pioneer Drive from the Fire Station in downtown. A variety of prizes are offered to game and competition winners.
3:30‐5:30pm, Ruth Pond
Teams of two battle it out against each other for the championship. Each team has a paddler and a jouster. The paddler strategically maneuvers the canoe while the jouster uses a pugil stick to up‐end the opponent and their canoe. Competition is open to participants 16 and older. Participants under 18 must have waiver signed by adult parent/guardian. Canoes, life jackets and pugil sticks are provided. Participants must be able to swim and attire appropriate with being completely submerged is necessary. This is a great spectator event so please come watch and cheer on your favorite team even if you won’t be jousting. The event is held at Ruth Pond at the corner of Hazelet and Fidalgo.

USCG Small Boat Station Boat Tours
4‐6pm, 234 Fidalgo Drive
Our local US Coast Guard Small Boat Station will be hosting tours of their vessels at the Coast Guard Dock located at the west end of Fidalgo Drive.
Free Community Picnic & Live Music
5-7pm, Kelsey Dock Uplands
Enjoy free burgers down at the Kelsey Dock Plaza while listening to live music from visiting band “Kayti & The Alter Boys” and enjoying the amazing view of Port Valdez.
Food will be served until it is gone.
Independence Evening at the Kelsey Dock Plaza
Spend the evening at the Kelsey Dock Plaza enjoying live music with Kayti & The Alter Boys from 5-9pm. Kick back and enjoy the bonfire while you roast marshmallows and make s’mores from 7-10pm.
Be sure to bring your own roasting stick, but the s’more supplies will be provided.
At 7pm the Parks & Recreation Department will host more kids’ activities at the Kelsey Dock Plaza. Also at 7pm the kids sparklers and goodie bags will be passed out while supplies last. Only one bag per child and must be accompanied by Parent or Legal Guardian.
