BACK ON TOP: VALDEZ RALLIES PAST MONROE TO TAKE CLASS 3A VOLLEYBALL CROWN
AK Dispatch: Led by a strong attack from Mesa Rohrer, Valdez overcame a first-set loss to capture the Class 3A state volleyball championship Saturday with a four-set win over Monroe at the Alaska Airlines Center.
The Buccaneers triumphed 24-26, 25-18, 25-18, 25-20 to return to the top of 3A volleyball for the first time since winning four straight state crowns from 2001-04.

The Gilson Middle School Gym was packed Saturday night as the boys and girls Husky basketball teams competed for the Boys B, Girls A and Boys A Championships. The Boys B team lost the final round game to the Cordova Wolverines and the Boys and Girls A Teams took 1st Place. SEE RESULTS

DRUGS & PARAPHERNALIA FOUND AT VALDEZ HIGH SCHOOL
Valdez High School requested officer’s assistance after three juvenile students were found in the possession of drug paraphernalia and contraband – including tobacco, alcohol, and marijuana. Investigation continues and will result in citations and criminal charges forwarded to the Juvenile Intake Officer.

VALDEZ POLICE RESPONDED TO A DRUNK DRIVING ACCIDENT

On Saturday, Nov 14th, a caller reported witnessing a vehicle swerve into and hit a parked truck in front of their residence, and another vehicle in their neighbor’s driveway. The driver of the vehicle, Caleb M. Springer of Valdez, DOB 08/07/1987, was determined to be heavily intoxicated and transported to Providence Valdez for further medical treatment. He was arrested on the charges of Driving under the Influence, Reckless Driving, and Failure to Possess Liability Insurance. Springer provided a BrAC of .209 at the Valdez Jail.
CODY GREENE DOMINATES AT HUTCHISON MELTDOWN

The VHS wrestling team traveled to compete in the Hutchison Meltdown this past weekend. Greene won 1st place at the 138 pound weight division.

ANCHORAGE ASSEMBLY APPROVES NEW TEXTING-AND-DRIVING PENALTY
AK Dispatch- Beginning Jan 1st, drivers caught texting behind the wheel in Anchorage will face a $500 fine but no threat of jail time. The change will make prosecution easier by changing a texting violation from a misdemeanor into a minor offense.
The law is not an outright cellphone ban while driving. It is designed to prevent drivers from using texting or apps on smartphones while behind the wheel. Read More HERE

TURKEY TROT 5K THIS SATURDAY
The Annual Parks & Rec Turkey Trot Family 5K is Saturday. Same day registration is at 9:30AM with the race at 10AM at the Teen and Community Center. $5 per individual or $20 per family OR non-perishable food donation. All ages are welcome! For more details and online registration, CLICK HERE.
SCOUTING FOR FOOD THIS WEEKEND

On Saturday, Cub Scouts in Valdez will go door to door collecting non-perishables and canned food items. Donation bags will be passed out a day or two before. The food will go to our local Food Bank for distribution. Donations can be left out in the bag for pickup starting at 9AM Saturday. If you don't receive a bag and would like to donate, drop your donations at the Lutheran Church or PVMC. This is a great opportunity to support our local food bank and Cub Scouts.
CVTV RETIRES $2.4 MILLION OF CAPITAL CREDITS
During its October 29, 2015, meeting, the Copper Valley Telephone Cooperative Board of Directors approved retiring $2,402,850 of capital credits, the largest general retirement in the cooperative's history. Copper Valley Telephone Cooperative mailed approximately 5,200 retirement checks to members and former members on November 12th.
