Mother nature smiled fondly on Valdez this past weekend as both the weather and snow conditions were perfect for great Region III Championship skiing. Several Valdez skiers posted outstanding performances in the field of 10 schools and almost 200 skiers.

DNR BUDGET CUTS LEAD TO PRIVATIZATION OF ALASKA STATE PARKS IN VALDEZ, ELSEWHERE
KTVA- Alaska’s statewide budget cuts have hit the Department of Natural Resources, and now the organization is looking to privatize operations of four Valdez-area parks, which will no longer have state-funded support beginning in July.

Ak Dispatch- More than 300 people flocked to this year’s Ice Climbing Festival in Valdez, the premier event for the nascent outdoor nonprofit Levitation 49. Climbing ribbons of frozen water in spectacular Keystone Canyon, festival-goers spent three days exploring the area, making new friends and reinforcing the idea that Valdez has plenty to offer outdoor enthusiasts year-round — including skiing, fishing, hiking, biking and hunting.

PIG REUNITED WITH OWNER
An individual reported that he found a pig along the highway around 10 mile and didn’t know what to do with it. Officers were currently on another incident and instructed the individual to leave it at the drop off cage at the Animal Shelter. The Animal Control officer later released the pig to its owner.
