WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES
Last Saturday, 42 people walked in the AVV Walk a Mile in her Shoes event. GMS Students and teachers raised $637.20 in five short days for domestic violence awareness. The walker who raised money to be donated was Monty Morgan with a total donation of $500.

PILLAR OF COMMUNITY TO BE REMEMBERED APRIL 25
LYLE VON BARGEN
Loving husband, father and devoted community member Lyle Von Bargen passed away April 6 at home with family by his side. Lyle was born on September 9, 1928 in Mazeppa, Minnesota, the fourth child of a farming family. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the Army and served in Germany at the end of WWII.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Lyle on Monday, April 25th
at 4:00pm at the Valdez Civic Center. The service will be followed by a pot luck meal. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

NEW BILL WOULD PUT ALASKA IN TO THE PACIFIC TIME ZONE AND END DAYLIGHT SAVINGS
The House State Affairs Committee approved a measure Thursday that would place Alaska into the Pacific Time Zone and remove the state from daylight saving time.

is the last day to file your 2015 income tax return.
Traditionally, April 15th is the deadline for taxes, however this year is an exception to that. April 16 falls on a Saturday in 2016 so Emancipation Day will be celebrated on April 15 and Tax Day will be postponed until Monday.

WARM ALASKA SPRING MIGHT BE WAKING BEARS UP EARLY; GRIZZLY SPOTTED IN FAIRBANKS
Warm temperatures across Alaska might be getting bears out of their dens early. Bear sightings have been reported all across the state, including a grizzly in the Fairbanks area this week.
