LADY BUCS GOING TO STATE
This past weekend Valdez hosted the 2015 Aurora Conference Volleyball Tournament and the hometown Lady Buccaneers took 1st place. As Regional Tournament Champions, the Lady Bucs will travel to the state tournament this weekend. The tournament will start Thursday and end Saturday. The Lady Bucs will play their First game Thursday at 1:30pm at the Alaska Airlines Center against the Homer Mariners. Valdez is going into the tournament as one of the number one seeds.  Read more about the tournament HERE.

CORDOVA RESIDENTS LINE UP TO MOVE LIBRARY ONE BOOK AT A TIME
KTUU- More than 100 Cordova residents lined up Wednesday to form a book brigade across Main Street, moving the entire community library collection one volume at a time.  From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., volunteers handed books to one another from the old public library on Main Street/1st Street to the newly opened Cordova Center.

GIRL SCOUT WOMEN OF SCIENCE

Dr. Angela Alfaro organized an event for Girl Scouts this Saturday at Hermon Hutchens. About 40 girls in Kindergarten through 7th grade worked with local volunteer EMT's Grace Huhndorf, Rhonda Williams, and Nona Allen, learned about physical therapy from Gigi Obren and got hands on experience suturing bananas under the direction of Alfaro. MORE THAN 200 STUDENTS COMING TO VALDEZ FOR BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

Gilson Middle School is hosting a basketball tournament this Friday and Saturday in Valdez. Twenty two teams will be competing in a double-elimination tournament.  The "A" teams will compete at Gilson Middle School and "B" team games will be at VHS. All championship games will be at GMS.

FIRST ROUND GAMES FRIDAY
12:30pm – Girls “A” Team at GMS
1:40pm – Boys “A” Team at GMS
2:50pm - Girls “B” Team at VHS

ANCHORAGE SCHOOL CANCELED DUE TO SOUTHCENTRAL ALASKA SNOWFALL
School in Anchorage has been canceled Monday, as the city recovers from a dump of snow that also hit parts of the Mat-Su overnight Sunday.
Anchorage School District spokeswoman Heidi Embley said the decision to cancel classes for the day was made due to "icy road conditions that are getting worse (as) the commute continues." The district had previously announced a two-hour delay for classes starting.  MORE HERE

OBAMA ADMINISTRATION REJECTS KEYSTONE PIPELINE
USA Today- President Obama announced Friday that his administration has rejected the Keystone XL Pipeline project after more than six years of review.
"The State Department has decided that the Keystone XL pipeline would not serve the national interest of the United States," Obama said in a 10-minute announcement at the White House with Secretary of State John Kerry and Vice President Biden. "I agree with that decision."

TOWN HALL MEETING ON LOCAL MARIJUANA OPTIONS THIS FRIDAY

This Friday, Nov 13th at 7pm
The City is soliciting related comments and questions from the public.  Cynthia Franklin, director of the State of Alaska Marijuana Control Board will be providing information regarding options for local government to allow for certain kinds of marijuana establishments, retail stores, cultivation facilities, product manufacturing and testing facilities.

The VHS wrestling team traveled to Anchorage for the ACS tournament where Senior Cody Greene wrestled in the championship match and took first place in the 138 pound weight division.

THREE RESCUED KODIAK BEAR CUBS FIND NEW HOMES IN LOWER 48
AK Dispatch- Two of three grizzly bear cubs rescued earlier this year on Kodiak Island after their mother was shot are now housed in a new exhibit recently unveiled at a Wisconsin zoo, with the third recently flown to an Ohio zoo.  Read more HERE
