Here's what's happening this month at Gloucester Rd WI.

Don't worry, be happy

Well hello and happy new year!

We're getting positive and proactive this month. Titled "Positive Choices in 2014", Anne Miller, a Bristol life and business coach, will be taking us through how to get clarity about what we want and find our motivation to take action in the year ahead.

Membership is also open for 2014 so we expect the first part of the evening will be quite chaotic. There will be a queue for renewals and a queue for new members and we'll try and get through it as fast as possible. Thanks to those who have already renewed or joined this year, just remember to sign in as normal.

We'll have all the usual business: an update on the cookbook, plans for the year ahead, clubs news and federation news. We'll also be starting a monthly raffle so bring some spare change along.

We meet at St Michael's on Gloucester Road. Doors open at 8.15pm (through the gate on the right to the little link room) with the aim of starting at 8.30pm. We're going to be in the front hall this time, following pilates which finishes at 8pm so don't turn up before 8pm. However, if you're one of the first, you can help us set up. :)

First and last chance to renew or join for 2014!

Due to the volume of interest the cookbook has generated, it looks like we'll be full up at January's meeting! So if you wish to remain a member, or join in the first place, please bring in cash or a cheque for £34.70 (with your completed membership form if you're joining).

You only need to fill in a membership form if your details have changed or if you're joining for the first time, download one here.

Charities for 2014

As you all know, the cookbook has been really flippin' successful. So much so that we did a second print run. Since we initially fundraised to pay for the printing, with the intention of the proceeds going to local charities and projects, we'll have more money than originally thought. Now it's getting to the fun part where we think about how to spend and give away the money!

So we are welcoming suggestions on which charities to support and projects to either support or take on. All ideas welcome. Please have a think and we'll collect some ideas at the meeting. We'll be voting on it at February or March's meeting. There will be a form to fill in for suggestions, please pick one up at the meeting.

Since the WI is a charity, there are certain rules we have to follow when supporting other charities. We are not allowed to support national charities, so our only stipulation is that your suggestion is based in or around Bristol and supports people locally. For example, we wouldn't be able to support the Samaritans as they are national, even if they have a branch in Bristol, nor a local charity that saves donkeys in Greece. Sticking with the ethos of the cookbook; keep it local!
Still a chance to get your cookbooks!  We had the second delivery in mid-December and we still have a few left so will be bringing some to the meeting. If you want to get one at the discounted WI rate of £10 then give us your cash at the meeting.

And finally...

India (our president) is co-organising a WI camping trip/mini-festival this summer called Tea & Tents with other WI members across the country. All WI members welcome and it's only £20 for the weekend. If you're a member and would like to find out more you can visit the website or the Facebook group for info. It'd be great to get a bunch of us going from GRWI. More about it at the meeting.

Visitors and new members for 2014

If you want to join for 2014 then fill in this membership form and bring it along with a cheque made payable to Gloucester Rd WI or cash for £34.70 to hand in at the door on the evening. You don't need to buy a visitor ticket to join as a new member.

We will be accepting visitors, the cost is £4 per meeting, but it is unlikely there will be any space to join if you leave it too late! You can visit up to three times before committing to membership.
