Here's what's happening this month at Gloucester Rd WI.

Arm Knitting

Get knitting, your new committee and everything Christmasy to come!

Here's the first newsletter from your new President and 2014/15 committee. We've had our first meeting and are ready and raring to go and are all looking forward to a fantastic year ahead! We'll be putting together a new contact sheet for the new 2014/15 committee, which will be up on the wall from January but in the meantime here's the new 'who's who':
  • President - Claire-Louise Partridge (CLP)
  • Secretary - Catherine Debley
  • Treasurer - Sarah Miller
  • Online manager - Nicola Thomas
  • Programme co-ordinator - Lisa Branney
  • Communications and marketing - Rachel Mylrea
  • WI link and Durdham Down Group Rep - Sian Jones
  • Members at large - Rebecca Wallace & Margaret Debley
For this month's meeting we have the lovely Kath aka Knitty Mummy showing us how to use our arms to knit. Please bring wool with you, you'll need 2 x balls of chunky wool and if it's super-chunky weight then 2 x 100g balls. We will have a few spare balls if anyone forgets.

We now meet at The Ardagh Bowling & Sports Club, on Horfield Common. We start at 8pm but you can arrive from 7.30pm. You can also get a drink and have a mingle beforehand and after the meeting as the bar will be open all evening. There is ample parking if you're driving too.

See you for our first meeting next week,
Your new Presdent, CLP
and the rest of the new committee for 2014/15

Christmas Raffle

At our Christmas do this year we'll be holding a raffle for Caring at Christmas
www.caringatchristmas.org.uk

'The Caring at Christmas shelter provides homeless people with warm and safe accommodation in Bristol over the Christmas period. We open from 3pm 24th December 24/7 all the way through until new years day'.

We already have a few prizes donated but would massively appreciate it if anyone can donate one or knows of anyone who would donate one. Please let the committee know if you are able to help.

The Christmas do is being held at Tart on the 9th December and costs £27 per person for three courses. We have exclusive use of the whole restaurant for the evening so it promises to be a great night with fantastic food. All the places are now gone so if you've signed up then please remember to bring along your £10 deposit on Tuesday to secure your place.

And finally...Christmas Choir Event

Now open to non-WI members, so invite your friends

Thanks to everyone who came along to the choir taster session. Feedback was really positive so we're following it up with a festive session where we'll sing Santa Baby and Silent Night. Here are the details:

Date:  Sunday 14th December
Time: 2-4pm
Place: Redland United Reform Church, Whiteladies Road, BS6 6SA
Cost: £5 in advance, £7 on the day
Friends/family: Arrive 3:50pm to hear what we've learnt

Performing what we learnt to friends and family at the end worked well so we'll stick with that format.

Please let Rebecca Wallace know if you'd like to come. And if you want to take advantage of the advance price of £5 please pay Rebecca at November's meeting. If you can't come to the meeting please send a cheque, with your address on the back, to 11 Woolcot St, BS6 6QH.
