Sarah Thornton's new book, 33 Artists in 3 Acts, goes behind the scenes with the world's most important living artists. Thornton interviewed over 130 artists, including Cindy Sherman and Ai Weiwei, to investigate artists' psyches, personas, politics, and social networks. She rummages through artists' bank accounts and bedrooms, exploring their studios as ideas germinate and major works take shape.
