Celebrate Red Cloud Street Car Days, Aug. 2nd-4th!

Visit Red Cloud during our annual celebration! This year's theme is "Farm to Table, Friends to Neighbors: Nebraska Strong" and will honor multigenerational farm families during the parade downtown at 10:30am on Saturday, Aug. 3rd. Donations will be collected during the parade thanks to volunteers from the Gary Thompson Agency. 100% of the collection will go the Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation's Disaster Assistance Fund--all of which goes to support Nebraska Farmers effected by flooding in 2019.

Events are too numerous too mention them all, but there will be fun for the whole family and all ages. Some of the highlights include: Civil War Reenactments all 3 three days, The Red Cloud Community Foundation Fund's "5K The Warrior Way" Obstacle Course and a Cornhole Tournament on Friday night, The 10th Annual Street Car Days Car Show presented by Jared's Auto Experts and Technet, classic rock and more from 9% at the Beer Garden on Saturday night, Mud Drags at the Speed Bowl and Lions' Club Pancake Fly-In Breakfast at the Airport on Sunday, special appearances by the American Legion Riders and Kool-Aid Man, vendors galore, and so much more. There will be a vendor raising funds to benefit the family of Cody Reutter, one of the drowning victims during the recent tragedy at Diversion Dam near Guide Rock.

Republican River Stock Tank Float Debuts New Route

Tanking and tubing enthusiasts braved 100+ degree heat to compete in the 9th Annual Cowles Legion Republican River Stock Tank Float on Saturday, July 20th. Participants in this year's event got to christen a new route which wound through Franklin and Webster County, starting at the Old Riverton Bridge and ending at the Inavale Bridge. The new route meant lengthier voyages for the 15 or so vessels and innumerable tubers whom set sail on the Republican. Because of the heat and fears about flooding and an algae bloom upstream at Harlan County Reservoir, many likely contestants shied away. Next year's race will celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Cowles Legion taking over the race from the Chamber of Commerce. Tubers are welcome as always and participants are encouraged to spend the whole weekend exploring Webster County. For more information about the event, please contact Stacy Rasser at 402-746-4744. For details about the race itself, please read the July 24 edition of the Red Cloud Chief.

Biz Kidz Camp Teaches Local Youth Entrepreneurial Skills

In late June, Aliese Hoffman (RCHS '09) from the University of Nebraska-Kearney's Center for Entrepreneurship & Rural Development organized a Biz Kidz camp for area youth ages 10-14. Participants from Red Cloud, Guide Rock, and as far away as Holstein gathered downtown and developed skills such as counting change and designing business cards in addition to creating their own products to sell. Red Cloud Tourism & Commerce was proud to be involved with this event and we are especially thankful to Hometown Market, Jared's Auto Experts, Shades West, and R Family Farms for sharing their expertise with the Biz Kidz, allowing the kids to learn more about local businesses and for giving behind the scenes tours.  Thanks as well to the National Willa Cather Center for allowing use of their space.

Look for some of the Biz Kidz who will be vendors at the City Park during Street Car Days on Saturday, August 3rd and at the Historic Starke Round Barn during Barnfest on Sept. 21st.

Webster County Fair & Rodeo

Red Cloud families joined forces with their friends throughout Webster County to celebrate and have a good time at the annual Fair & Rodeo in Bladen, which was held July 25th to July 27th. Read more about the fair in this story from the Hastings Tribune and mark your calendars for next year's event which will be held July 23-25th
