Street Car Days (Aug. 5-7) to feature new events and old favorites
Back in June, the Red Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce unveiled the theme of their annual Street Car Days celebration: "Restoring the Past, Reshaping the Future." The theme is a nod to the development work going on in the community which is designed to restore some of the community's past glory while creating new economic development opportunities.
As fate would have it, the theme is also an apt description of the events the Chamber has organized for 2022, which features a stalwart lineup of signature events like the Parade, the Fire Department's BBQ, the Lions Club Fly-In Pancake Feed, Missoula Children's Theatre, a midnight swim, and a Saturday evening beer garden and concert (Shooter Jaxx) while also making room for new events like live music at On the Brix on Friday evening, the Red Cloud Athletic Association's Road Rally on Sunday, a Children's Dollar Dig, Turtle Races, and the return of a basketball skills competition. Even the Saturday night concert is a new idea in that it and the beer garden have been moved from the tennis courts to the gazebo and park area near the swimming pool.
Other events include newer traditions like the Friday evening Red Cloud Community Fund Warrior 5K and Obstacle Course, the Corhnole Tournament, Sand Volleyball Tournament, the Car Show, Junior Class and EMT Burger Bashes, and much more.
Scroll down for a complete schedule of events and make sure to follow the event on the Red Cloud Tourism & Commerce Facebook page for the latest updates. Contact the Chamber of Commerce at 402-746-4065 if you are interested in being a vendor or entering a float in the parade or just have questions.

RC LEGENDS
KIM WEXLER, Retired Attorney (Fictional Character from the AMC Series Better Call Saul)
In honor of the conclusion of the TV series Better Call Saul, this month's legend really is just a legend. Careful viewers of the show will note that scenes depicting the childhood of the character Kim Wexler take place in Red Cloud, NE! We're not sure we would want to live in the Wexler version of Red Cloud, but it does have a nice junior high building! And they even got the license plate county designation correct!
This is pure speculation, but one of the reasons Red Cloud might have been chosen is that Superior native Heather Marion (formerly Williams) is a staff writer for Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul. Marion has family in Red Cloud. Learn more about Marion in this article from the Hastings Tribune.
You can check out both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul on AMC and Netflix. Neither show is for the faint of heart, and we do not recommend watching either series if you would prefer not to view scenes of graphic violence. Better Call Saul is a prequel to Breaking Bad---a story about a high school chemistry teacher who resorts to cooking meth to pay his cancer bills. Better Call Saul chronicles the life of Jimmy McGill--aka Saul Goodman, a sleazy lawyer in Breaking Bad played by Bob Odenkirk.
