When we said ‘yes’ to God and to missions 10 years ago as singles and again almost 6 years ago as newlyweds, we were saying ‘yes’ to the unknown. We had dreams and hopes of seeing the lost saved, the sick healed and the unwanted loved. Our lives HAVE been changed as we have seen the sick, waiting to die, fully recover with life and vigor; as we have seen the broken and desperately lost souls find hope and salvation in Jesus; as we have seen the unwanted and the orphan encounter the unconditional love of The Father. These ‘God moments’ have made the sacrifices required when we said ‘yes’ worth it! What Bible School and Missions School didn’t prepare us for, and what we didn’t expect, was the storm that would come to our lives and never leave us the same again. The past few years have been filled with many struggles, including: tremendous strains on our marriage, losing 3 babies in miscarriages and the grieving that followed as well as the constant day in and day out trials of living and conducting Gospel ministry on the mission field. God has used these struggles to cause great growth.
Last year we went through a season of brokenness and grief after the third miscarriage. We found ourselves asking questions like, “God, we are giving our lives to serve you and we love you... Where are you?, Why aren’t you doing anything? Where is the breakthrough from these trials?”. We have wrestled with God. We have yelled, we have cried and at times we have even been numb.  Some call this the dark night of the soul. As I (Sara) worked through my frustrations and disappointments of my failed pregnancies and as I (Jesse) worked through coming into touch with the reality of my abusive childhood; together, we began to experience something wonderful. It was like the sun piercing through storm clouds, God came and poured out his healing power into our souls. In the most beautiful way, God transformed the pain that was trying to tear our family apart into a supernatural glue that has bonded us so deeply.
Coming into 2017 we were sure of one thing. The pain we have experienced is not in vain. That what the devil meant to harm us, God intends it all for good. God converted our pain into fuel for passion. Passion for children all over the world that are suffering from neglect and abuse. Passion for missionary families struggling on the field. Our desire to see Isaiah 61 become a reality increased so much that we felt God leading us to put this passion into action. The past 3 months God has confirmed this to us through extraordinary ways. Sara has had the opportunity to meet weekly with the Missionary Kids on our team. She is providing a safe place for them to process and work through their struggles and pains as they adjust to life on the field. She is an encouragement to their parents as she provides resources and insight into how they can help their kids grieve their lost worlds while at the same time explore their new one filled with adventures.
Jesse had an amazing opportunity to enroll in Christian graduate school for Counseling Psychology through distance education. God has been equipping him to take his calling to another level. Already in the past 3 months we have seen God take what he is learning in his classes and use it to minister to the lost in Honduras, to our missionary team and to our Bible School students. Through all of this we are being blessed daily to see God’s restoring power in our lives. We’ll be writing more each month as the story unfolds!
We just want to encourage you that whatever circumstances or situations you may face… an abusive childhood, failed pregnancies, difficulty keeping a job, stress in marriage, estranged relationships with family, a recent divorce… etc…. God CAN redeem and restore and bless you beyond what you can imagine.
May the Lord bless you abundantly,
