Cause for Applause
Kudos to these "paw-sitively" awesome Huskies
The OPRF slam team earned 1st place in the first Louder Than a Bomb preliminary bout on Feb. 23. Quarter Finals begin March 6. Click here to learn more. 

The following Visual Arts students were recognized at the Illinois High School Art Exhibition on Feb. 24: Natalie Serratos, Time Arts; Elena (Nini) Catrambone, Pottery; Abigail Van Santen, Drawing; Colleen Duffy, Painting; Anderson Kennedy, Photography; Anna Sordilla, Design-Metalworking; Benjamin Ross; Greta Olson; Adele Henning; Kaia Morrison-Burks; Remy Gajeweski; and Logan Nijensohn. Additionally, the seniors were awarded more than $1M in total scholarship offers to various schools and universities, including Watkins College of Art, Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, Art Academy of Cincinnati, Kansas City Art Institute, Northern Illinois University, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and College for Creative Studies.

The OPRF Math Team placed 2nd overall at the ICTM Regional, missing first place by only 14 points. Highlights include: 1st place in Junior Written for Garrett Credi, 1st place in Senior Written for Jack Thomas-Calwell, and 2nd place in Oral Competition for James Kennedy.

The Boys Swim and Dive Team finished the season 13th overall. Junior Will Raidt led the charge with two new school records, a 3rd place finish in the 200 free, and an 8th place finish in the 100 fly. The medley relay team of Diego Pareja, Alex Pedraza, Will Raidt, and Frank Tirone earned 10th place overall. Junior Tyler Hoyt dove well for the Huskies and captured 25th place.

Last weekend, the Wrestling Team took home the 2nd place trophy at the IHSA Dual State Tournament. Here are the accomplishments for the 2018-19 season: No. 16 Nationally Ranked (as of 2/16), 26-4 Overall Record, WSC Silver Champions, Clash National Dual Champions (Rochester, MN), Powerade National Invitational - 2nd Place (Pittsburgh, PA), IHSA Regional Champions, 6 All-State Individuals (Including State Champion Eddie Bolivar), IHSA Sectional Champions, and IHSA Dual State Runner-up.

Junior Sonia Zartman won the state-wide Shakespeare Monologue Competition for her powerful performance as Lady Percy from "Henry IV, part 1" and her heartfelt recitation of "Sonnet 141." Sonia will head to New York to perform against 50 state winners at Lincoln Center on April 28.
Classes in session on Pulaski Day
A reminder that classes are in session on Monday, March 4, 2019. This revision is to make up the lost day of student attendance that we experienced due to the snow day on November 26, 2018.

Hemingway Foundation scholarship opportunity
OPRF juniors are invited to enter the annual Hemingway Foundation Student Scholarship Essay Contest. Entrants must write a 300- to 600-word essay that conveys how they feel about their hometown. Submissions are due by April 2, 2019. Learn more here

Join the Huskie Booster Club
The Booster Club is seeking parents/guardians to volunteer for chair positions next year. Positions in merchandise sales, communications, volunteer coordination, social committees, and memberships are open and need to be filled in order for the Boosters to continue. In the past five years, the Boosters have raised $250,000, which went directly to OPRF students to help fill in gaps in academics, athletics, arts, and activities/clubs.

Huskies Have a Heart
Young Hearts for Life will bring its Cardiac Screening Program to OPRF on May 9, 2019. All students whose parents authorize them to be tested will receive a free heart screening called an electrocardiogram (ECG). Find more information and register here.
