ISCOS, REACH award bursaries to needy students 


A total of 248 ISCOS members’ children and other disadvantaged kids who scored above average in their school examinations received bursaries from REACH Community Services Society (RCSS) in a ceremony held on 22 December 2012.
 
Mrs Josephine Teo, Minister of State, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Transport and MP for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC handed the bursaries worth a total of $92,000 to students from primary, secondary, ITE and JC levels, each receiving between $300 to $500. The event was held in Guangyang Primary School.

“I’m very happy to receive this bursary because it will help me in my school needs,” said Aloysius Joseph Solomon, 13, Secondary 1 student.

Bursary recipients will be attached to volunteer mentors who will serve as good role models to the students and conduct regular home visits. Interested volunteers who are passionate to mentor the students can contact Vani at 6471 7570 or email volunteer@iscos.org.sg.


ISCOS redesignates Phang Seok Sieng as Executive Director


ISCOS redesignates Phang Seok Sieng as Executive Director, formerly Executive Director (Development) with effect from 1 February 2013. This follows the resignation of Ms Freda Tham, former Executive Director (Investment), after six years with the Co-operative.

Ms Lisa Cheong was promoted to Deputy Director while Mr Elvis Overee is now Senior Manager, Programmes & Services.

Concurrently, all job designations in ISCOS have been revised to better reflect the nature of services provided and job function of staff. As a result, ISCOS will now have three divisions namely Programmes & Services, Communications & External Relations and Corporate Services & Investment.

SNCF honours ex-ISCOS Board Member


Mr. Albert Kong, former ISCOS Honorary Secretary received the Certificate of Honour at the Singapore National Co-operative Federation (SNCF) Honour Awards held on 19 January 2013 at Marina Bay Sands.

Guest of Honour Mr Lim Swee Say, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, presented the accolade to Mr Kong and 21 other award recipients for their significant contributions to the growth of the Singapore Co-operative Movement.

In his six years of service as ISCOS Board Member, Mr. Kong contributed his time, resources and contacts to further the cause and mission of ISCOS. As Managing Director of Asiawide Franchise Consultants Pte Ltd, he helped to spread the message of giving second chances to ex-offenders among his business and personal contacts.

ISCOS touches 2,632 lives in 2012


The year 2012 has been an eventful one for ISCOS, with various programmes and events implemented successfully which have benefited our members and their families.

A total of 2,632 beneficiaries have received various forms of assistance in the areas of job placement, trade skills/soft skills training, entrepreneurship training, support group & mentoring, and children's education & family support, among others.

In return, ISCOS Motivators, or members who received help from ISCOS and are now successfully reintegrated, gave back to the community by participating in Preventive Education Talks. Around 39 sharing sessions were conducted all over Singapore which inspired more than 700 youths.

As ISCOS welcomes the new year, we are committed to spreading the message of second chances to impact more lives.
