StarHub donates $80,000 for bursary scheme

StarHub donated $80,000 for this year’s StarHub-ISCOS Bursary Award, a scheme under the Yellow Ribbon Fund-ISCOS Fairy Godparent Programme (FGP). The bursary aims to reward members’ children from low-income families for achieving good final examination results.

“We want to nurture children, to give them what their peers enjoy. Beyond that, we also want to help them realise their dreams – for themselves, their families and even society,” said Ms Jeannie Ong, Chief Marketing Officer, StarHub.

The cheque donation was presented on 24 December 2013 at the Ramada Hotel during StarHub’s Christmas Party, organised by 80 StarHub staff to spread Yuletide cheer to 44 FGP beneficiaries. The StarHub team surprised the children and their parents with an exciting line-up of games and treated them to a sumptuous buffet lunch. They also fulfilled the children's holiday wishes, which included toys, watches, guitars, and even a child's wish for milk formula intended for his younger sibling.

ISCOS members clean cars for a good cause

Six ISCOS members gave back to society by volunteering at the charity car wash organised by the Punggol South Grassroots Organisations (GROs) on 1 March 2014 at North Vista Primary School.

The members, along with other grassroots volunteers, washed 376 cars from 9.00am to 5.00pm, raising $6,000. The funds raised will be used to assist about 130 needy students to purchase school items such as uniforms and textbooks.

Families bond at movie outing, musical

A total of 44 ISCOS beneficiaries had a family bonding time as they watched the movie ‘Tarzan’ at Cathay Cineleisure on 15 March 2014. The movie tickets were sponsored by M1 Limited. After the movie, the families were treated to a sumptuous lunch at the Eighteen Chefs Café, courtesy of Ipsos Singapore Pte Ltd.

In addition, 71 ISCOS beneficiaries watched the LightSeeker Musical on 17 March 2014, sponsored by Resorts World Sentosa. It was heartening to see families spending quality time together and forging closer ties.

FGP kids matched with mentors

Thirteen student beneficiaries of the YRF-ISCOS Fairy Godparent Programme (FGP) identified to be in need of mentoring support were matched with their respective mentors on 29 March 2014.

The first matching session was held at the office of Baker & McKenzie.Wong & Leow (BMWL), where 20 BMWL staff were matched to their mentees. This is the fourth year that the law firm has been involved in mentoring FGP children.

The matching session was facilitated by students from the National University of Singapore through ice-breaking games and team-building activities. The mentors were also introduced to the parents of the students.

We need more volunteer mentors for FGP children. For more information, please contact Vani at 6471 7570 or email vanishree@iscos.org.sg.
