Children singing at Bethel Home in Myanmar, see my FB album for more pics
Rev Henry and I went on our 2nd trip together to Myanmar. He was inspired by James 1:27 ("Religion that God our Father accepts as pure...") and decided to dedicate the rest of his life to care for those in need. We have plans to visit Cambodia and Nepal as well, but for now we started a pilot project at Bethel Home in Yangon where we sponsor special tutoring to a few gifted students. The vision is that it would raise the standard of education for all 70 students in Bethel Home, and their faith in God would be evident to those who know them when by God's grace the gifted students experience phenomenal success as college students and young adults.
We're calling this project Vision Myanmar for now, and we are also considering establishing a nonprofit organization based in California, not just for this project but for missionaries in general that would want a simple and decentralized supporting agency where they're more interdependent than dependent on each other. Pari is our contact person at Bethel Home, her parents had started it about 15 years ago; she appreciates our vision and has welcomed us to start this project. Most Asian directors of children homes tend to think special tutoring (or differentiated education) is unfair and insist on uniform treatment of every child.
